Cocktails and Books: We have DB Moon with us today. Tell us about yourself.
DB Moon: Sure, reader’s digest version-- I am a writer, dog trainer (Almost all of my stories have at least one dog mentioned) and a Project Runway junkie. I am living the fractured fairy tale with my wonderful husband Eben, who is a board game designer and a writer as well (Helps to have another creative neurotic in the house). My family includes two great kids who keep me on my toes (mentally and physically) three entitled cats, and one issue plagued but none the less loveable dog.
Cocktails and Books: Tell us about Summerland.
DB Moon: Summerland was a labor of love for me. Originally written in 2000, with a slightly different flavor, it evolved into the story it is today— One woman’s journey through the pitfalls of life and love with a little help from her family, and maybe a cheesecake or two
Cocktails and Books: Where did you get your ideas for the secondary cast of characters? They were a tad bit out there.
DB Moon: A tad out there, Um—Yah, that is a good way to describe them. Keeley is based on a real person, the rest of them began as figments of my imagination but then they took on lives of their own and hijacked the story from me. Genie especially! She showed up three chapters early and arranged a pool party that I had never intended. It all turned out well, but I was a tad irritated
Cocktails and Books: What is it about the romance genre that appeals to you?
DB Moon: Writing romance is about firsts, the first look, the first smile, the first kiss etc. etc. I like recreating beginnings and the feelings associated with them.
Cocktails and Books: What kind of research did you do for this book?
DB Moon: I am a Project Runway and fashion junkie, so I am familiar with the design world. There might have been a tabloid site or two read, just for research purposes of course.
Cocktails and Books: When did your interest in writing start?
DB Moon: Since I could hold a pencil, I wrote my first story when I was seven. It was a short piece with a Little House on the Prairie feel to it. In high school I entered writing contests, but then life happened and I put my pencil down to pick up text books.
Cocktails and Books: Who most influenced you?
DB Moon: Influence? Oh that’s a good question, Um, some of my favorite authors are Christopher Moore, Jennifer Crusie and Janet Evanovich—So I would suppose, I enjoy mixing lunacy and sanity to see what I come up with.
Cocktails and Books: What are you reading right now?
DB Moon: Right now I am reading an e-book by fellow author Elizabeth Morgan called Razzle Dazzle. It is a modern day retelling of Rapunzel.

About the Author
My name is Desi Moon. I have been a freelance content writer for four years, but a fiction writer since I could hold a pencil. My first story written at the age of seven was a historical piece ala Little House on the Prairie. In high school I was one of those kids always carrying a notebook jotting down ideas and poems that never saw the light of day.
I reside in beautiful Boulder, Colorado with my writer/board game designer husband Eben. My family also includes two incredibly energetic children who keep me on my toes, three very entitled cats and one hopelessly neurotic, but none the less lovable dog.
My writing “style” can be described as humorous romantic comedy that skirts the cliff of sexual exploitation, but never takes the plunge. A bit of sweet, a touch of steam and a lot of laughter, my contemporary romances are called “sweet” but they do offer a bit of grit.
Noble Romance released my debut novel, Summerland. It is a contemporary romance which veers just this side of sweet.
Rebel Ink Press will be releasing my next two projects. A short story- “My Humiliating Valentine”- will be included in the Tempting Cupid Valentine’s day Anthology.
Accidental Intent is coming in the spring 2012 and is described as a romantic murder mystery that has literally gone to the dogs.
When not cajoling or arguing with the voices in my head (otherwise known as my characters)
I work as a dog trainer, am an all around coffee snob and am a reality TV junkie. (It placates the voyeur in me) I also love to bake decadent desserts.

Oh My...My hubby & I have 2 entitled cats...and we're in the process of integrating a third into our household. NOT an easy task!
ReplyDeleteGood Review Shannon. I'm intrigued by the Aunt Genie character. I guess I'll have to read the book to learn more.

ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Genie still tries to worm her way into my thought process while I am writing other books, I might have to break down and write the biography she is longing for LoL
Thank you Shannon for inviting me to chat over drinks!
