Wilda Lady of the manor turned slave during a viking raid. She is exepting of her fate seeming kinda cold and emotionaly distant. Taking everything in and not leting anything or anyone hurt her. Wilda was very carefree and happy as a child until her village was raided and she watched her mother die.

Einar, a man who wont talk and takes taunting and abuse from the people of his village with out a word. An outcast. Einar while on his first raid watched his brother kill his eldest brother. Narrowely surving his brothers attack himself staying silent and distant to proctect his younger siblings.

This book was full of action and strife. The details were amazing I felt very drawn into the vikings life. I though the slavery life was quite soft for this story. Iu think back then the viking would have been more harsh on their slaves. The secondairy characters were really amazing. Myldrith and her anger towards what happened to her.

The romance between Wilda and Einar was fast. I felt they both saw each other as a reason to find hope again. And living and not just roll with the punches. Besides not being able to speak very much in the others tongue. They seem to conumicate well enough. In Wilda, Einar finds the will to change his circamstances and fight for what he let slip away.

The village is all trapped under Einar older brother Bausi influence who is using dark magic to trap them to his will.  The village is in a dark rut.


Together Wilda and Einar show the village the way back to light.
