Guest Post: Melinda Leigh & Rayna Vause

Authors Melinda Leigh and Rayna Vause are taking over posting duties today and sharing with us their idea of a Micro Vacation.

The Micro Vacation by Melinda Leigh & Rayna Vause
We all have those awful days. The kids were fighting. The boss was a royal pain in the you-know-what. Your mother (or mother-in-law) called. Twice. Dirty laundry is piled to the ceiling. The car was making a weird, expensive-sounding noise on the commute home. You’re having a “Calgon, take me away” day. You need a vacation, but you know you’re not going to get one till next August. It’s only February. Ack! What’s a girl to do?

You need a break from reality. You need an honorable hero and a feisty heroine. You need a story in which the white hats get their happily-ever-after and the bad guys get the shaft. You need hot sex in exotic locations.

You need a romance novel.

A good romance takes you to another time or place and sweeps you off your feet. It makes you forget about the dust bunnies breeding under the bed and the pending real estate tax assessment. With a little planning and preparation and the right book, you can have an evening away without leaving your house. Here’s our recipe for the micro-vacation:
  • Food and entertainment for other members of household.
  • Paper plates, because who wants to get all relaxed and then have to do dishes?
  • Cocktail of your choice.
  • Sturdy lock for bathroom door.
  • Scented candle. Anything that doesn’t smell like gym socks or wet dog will do.
  • Island music (or whatever floats your boat). The idea is to drown out any bickering that seeps through the floor or heat vents.
  • Bathtub filled with piping hot water. Bubbles or salts are optional.
Mix all of the above together and add a great romance novel.  You’ll feel better.  We promise.
Now here’s a little about a novella that we think can give you that quick escape. (Yes, there’s hot sex in an exotic location.)

About the book
Two years ago, ethnobotanist Dr. Elizabeth DeMarco, driven by grief to find a cure for cancer, left her lover mid-proposal to accept a position on a research expedition to the Amazon Rainforest. Kidnapped by guerrillas, she was saved by warriors from the secret all-female civilization of the ancient Amazons. She has been kept prisoner since in the Amazon’s supernaturally hidden valley.

Despite Elizabeth’s rejection, anthropologist Logan Spencer never stopped searching for her.  While consulting on a mass grave uncovered in the remote Brazilian interior near the place Elizabeth was kidnapped, Logan falls from a cliff.  On the brink of death, he is collected by the Amazons and magically healed. When Logan wakes, the first person he sees is his beloved Elizabeth.

Unfortunately, their reunion is less than joyful. The mystical medicine is changing Logan.  But there’s no time to study the side-effects. The Amazons plan to steal Logan’s DNA, then kill him.  Logan and Elizabeth must escape before dawn or Logan is doomed.  Getting him out of the hidden valley won’t be easy.  The Amazon’s supernatural powers make the task all but impossible.
