three-stars

All-Star linebacker Frank Kelly is as well-known for his off-the-field hits as he is for his on-field ones. When a dance club brawl ends with him in handcuffs again, he’s rescued by a well-connected woman who can get the charges dropped in exchange for a small favor. If he’ll agree to play the part of a doting boyfriend for two months, she’ll keep him out of the slammer and help restore his reputation.

Kiana Dyer may be the daughter of a Hall of Fame football player, but the charity organization she took over when he died isn’t getting the media attention she’d hoped for. A staged romance with Frank Kelly is just the ticket she needs to get in the spotlight. As the lines between fake and real start to blur, she begins to wonder if bailing him out was the best call she’s ever made. Just when everything seems to be falling perfectly in place, scandal surrounds her charity, and she’s the one left scrambling to clear her name.

Karen’s Thoughts

IN THE RED ZONE is an enjoyable story about Frank Kelly a professional quarterback. Even though his nickname is Romeo and he is considered a womanizer, at heart Frank is a nice, down to earth guy and a little shy.Β  Frank has problems with a bad temper and he had some bad press in the past because of it, so he is staying out of situations that will get him into trouble.Β  When Frank meets Kiana, the sister of one his teammates, he can’t take his eyes off of her.Β  Kiana heads up her father’s foundation, helping supply underprivileged school children with football equipment. She is trying to get public recognition for the foundation and donations.Β  Kiana asks Frank to use his celebrity status to help with the foundation and he agrees because he will do anything to get to know her. Β Kiana likes Frank and finds him attractive, but tries to keep her distance.Β  She has secrets she doesn’t want to share and knows getting close to him is a bad idea, but Frank is persistent.

This is the sixth book in the Kelly Brothers series and each one is a stand-alone and features a different brother. This is the first book I have read in this series and IΒ didn’t have aΒ problem keeping up with everything.Β  This is an interesting sports romance and it deals with some heavy issues such as mixed race relationships and battered women.
