four-stars

There are few things worse than being left at the altar by the man you thought loved you. Just ask Simon Wilder. He knows all about it. He also knows a thing or two about getting fired. It`s been a rotten week for Simon and making major life decisions during such turmoil may not be the wisest thing Simon has ever done. Or is it?

Packing up his clothes, his collection of Tony Orlando CD`s, and his cat, Sambuca, Simon leaves the hustle and bustle of Philadelphia behind and heads out to live on his uncle Tiberius` farm in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Starting over on the farm where he vacationed once as a child is a going to be just what the doctor ordered, as long as that doctor is the good-looking large animal veterinarian, Gentry Martin. Is a sexy country vet the cure for a love-sick city boy?

Kenna’ s Thoughts

What a little gem!!  The blurb got my attention, and then I saw the cover.  There was a lovely black cat that reminded me so much of my Greebo that I just had to click it.  I am definitely not sorry that I did.

Simon is a mess.  He was left at the altar by his boyfriend, and he had a teeny (yeah, right!) tantrum at work, so he’s out of a job as well.  A chance encounter with a woman at a coffee shop made him to decide to pack up his life (and his kitty, Sambuca) and move from Philadelphia to his Uncle’s farm out in the middle of nowhere.  Let’s just say that Simon is NOT equipped to deal with life on the farm.  Deciding to get a job to help pay for some of the bigger expenses, he ventures into town to apply for the receptionist position at the local veternarian’s office, and the story takes off from there.

I loved every single character in “Early to Rise”…ok, not EVERY character.  Richard is a loser and a pile of you know what for not having the courage to tell Simon that he was rethinking their wedding. However, Simon’s adorable.  Gentry is panty melting, and Uncle Tiberius is hilarious.  Simon’s mother, and Jemma the pregnant receptionist (whose job Simon is filling) are also fantastic.  All of these people hold a place in the story. There isn’t any unnecessary fluff.

The love story between Simon and Gentry is so sweet…from their first meeting, to the uncertainty, to the passion.  It was as believable as it was heartwarming.  The men are so perfect for each other, and every scene they were in made me smile.  They have a chemistry that was comfortable but hot.  There wasn’t much sex, but what there was was scorching.  I’m a big fan of sex in my books, but in this case, less was more.

I am highly recommending “Early to Rise”.  It was a wonderful way to spend an evening, curled up with Greebo, and sipping some tea.  Four solid stars for this one.
