In Secret Pleasure by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh, Sebastian and Shane De Loren were born to love Alyssa Hampstead. No other woman on Earth can burn for them, ignite with passion between them, the way Alyssa does. But after three sensual months of pleasure come to a crashing halt, Sebastian and Shane are left fighting their powerful family, risking it all to have Alyssa one more time... Alyssa has closed off her heart. A senator's daughter in the political spotlight, she'd rather be quiet and safe than feel the emotional intensity Sebastian and Shane roused within her years ago. But when the sexy cousins blaze their way back into her life, Alyssa cannot help but succumb to the heady pleasures the two men can give her. And as an unknown enemy draws near, Alyssa will need Sebastian and Shane to protect her...and satisfy every forbidden craving...

Lora Leigh is a newer author to me. Prior to Secret Pleasure, I had only read a novella of hers and I wasn’t sure what I thought. I decided I needed to read a full length book of hers to decide if she’s an author I’d like to keep reading and after reading this book, I’m still not sure.

Secret Pleasures was an entertaining read, but it had a lot of issues. Our heroine, Alyssa, is an 18 year old virgin when she meets our heroes Shane and Sebastian. It felt like we got to know Alyssa fairly well, but cousins Shane and Sebastian didn’t feel well developed to me. There were allusions to what connected them and made them want to live the lifestyle they did, but this was never elaborated on. I think it would have helped make them more relatable.

It’s established pretty early that Alyssa, Shane, and Sebastian are a ménage that works well. Outside forces drive them apart and as we move through the story we find out who; but there are several key facts regarding the intrigue aspect of the book that we are left in the dark about, mainly the motive and how the group of bad guys are connected. These missing pieces left a pretty big hole in the story for me.

The sexy times between Alyssa, Shane, and Sebastian are plentiful both in the ménage setting and one on one. These scenes were incredibly detailed and that created issues with things feeling repetitive and in some cases inconsistencies in the scenes themselves.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Secret Pleasures, but I didn’t love it and I don’t know that it’s a book I would instantly recommend. As it’s the 13th book in the Bound Hearts series, there may have been information presented in other books that would have helped with this one.

I am a full time mom who works part time. I squeeze reading in wherever I can between work, volunteer stuff, and kid activities. I read a little bit of everything, but really enjoy indie authors and Happy- Ever-Afters. I've been reviewing for Cocktails and Books since January 2015.
