The Boudreaux Series: Sexy. Intriguing. Easy.
Callie Mills never intended to return to New Orleans and the life she left behind more than a decade ago. There was no need to open old wounds when she had the life she’d worked hard for in Denver. But when she’s fired from her awesome job in Colorado and her father dies, she has no choice but to return home to run the derelict bar left to her in the heart of the French Quarter. Callie must not only face bad memories but turn The Odyssey into something she can be proud of.
And who better to help bring in crowds of people than Declan Boudreaux?
Declan is a sought-after musician who knows he’s good at what he does and loves doing it. Known to pack the house, he also loves women and doesn’t expect to be knocked back a step by the beautiful new owner of The Odyssey. Callie is sharp, gorgeous and funny, and makes him yearn for something he never has before… Commitment. But when Callie’s able to turn the business around with renovations, making it one of the hottest bars in the Quarter, will she sell out and leave her past behind once and for all, or will Declan be able to convince her that’s she’s where she needed to be all along…in his arms.

This is the third installment of the Boudreaux series and it doesn’t disappoint. There is just something about a Kristen Proby book. Β It sucks you in, renders you incapable of doing anything but devouring the book in one setting and afterwards leaves you sated for hours on end. Β

Callie’s father dies and lives her his bar, the Odyssey, in the heart of the French Quarter. Β Long ago, she left because she couldn’t deal with her father’s alcoholic and destructive waysΒ and she has been managing her boyfriend’s bar in Denver. Β She heads down to New Orleans to tie up everything after her father’s death but her boyfriend in Denver ends up dumping her on the phone. Β

Callie decides maybe she just needs to start over and stay in New Orleans. Β She decides to overhaul her father’s run down bar. Β She loves rehabbing old houses and the bar is no different. Β She loves digging into a project. Β

Declan has been playing at The Odyssey for years. Β The bar has been closed for 3 months and he is anxious to get back into a routine there. Β He is also interested in Callie but Declan has a reputation as a player and Callie knows to steer clear. Of course, she can’t deny the attraction and they decide to explore the connection between them. Β Neither is looking for serious so they just enjoy each other thoroughly.Β

They both start falling for each other but of course they can’t get out of their own ways. Β Things become difficult between them as situations are misconstrued and instead of talking they do a good deal of ignoring. Β Much like real life, these two don’t make the smartest decisions about how to handle their feelings for each other. Β

I loved this book. Β Kristen Proby does romance beautifully. Β YouΒ always fall into her books, forget whereΒ you are for a bit and leave with a smile on your face.

“Your love is like a song, and our song is an easy melody that plays, over and over, in my heart. Some days it’s slow and sweet, and other days it’s fast and loud, but it’s always love. It’s my favorite song.”
