Disaster brings people together in the most unexpected ways. Sammy Ranmore has just become the Steins brothers' next target in their ongoing scam. Being robbed then shot at, his life is falling apart. Who is after him and why? He needs a friend.
Micah Ives was over the unrequited love he'd felt for Sammy. Two years later his life is finally on track--or so he thinks. One phone call in the early hours of the morning has Micah running to save the day--and Sammy.
Sammy moved to Gatton to be closer to the one person he'd never get over. When his life gets thrown a curve ball of epic proportions, he calls Micah for help. With the help of family, Micah and Sammy must find out if they're strong enough to face evil--and see where newfound love can take them.

Let me just get this out of the way before I go into the review.

PROSTATE:  noun
1. Also called prostate gland. a gland in male mammals that surrounds the neck of the bladder and urethra and secretes a liquid constituent of the semen

PROSTRATE:
adjective: prostrate
1. lying stretched out on the ground with one’s face downward.
synonyms: prone, lying flat, lying down, stretched out, spread-eagled, sprawling, horizontal, recumbent;
This is very important.  I am flipping out a little because “Harder & Harder to Breathe” was the second book in TWO DAYS I’ve read where the author called the “prostate” gland the “prostrate” gland.  I would think that an author of MM stories (or even MF, actually) would know a bit about the male anatomy, and I would hope this would be something an editor would catch right away.

OK…rant over.  Other than the glaring P-words, I liked this story.  I’m a big fan of the protective top/submissive (I refuse to say weaker) bottom.

This comes from my own desire to be protected and taken care of.  Michah has been in love with Sammy since he laid eyes on him.  Sammy has loved Michah since that moment as well, but he’s always had posessive loser boyfriends who didn’t like Sammy to have any friends, let alone a handsome male friend. Michah had been Sammy’s roommate, but he’d asked him to leave because of these other men.  One night, Michah gets a call in the middle of the night. It’s Sammy, and he’s in terrible trouble.  His latest jerk of a boyfriend has stolen everything of value from their apartment, and what he didn’t steal, he and his brother destroyed.  He has to pack a bag and get out…fast!  Michah is only too happy to resuce Sammy, and he does just that.

This was not only a sweet, sexy love story.  There was also some mystery/action, and also an underlying subplot about friendship and taking care of your own.  The sex was great, but the relationships between the characters, even the police, were very special.  Also, N.J. Nielsen laid a foundation for the next book, and that’s something that I’m going to look very forward to.

I should quickly add that “Harder & Harder to Breathe” is written in what the blurb called “Australian English”.  It’s not glaring, but some of the words were unfamiliar to me.  However, it didn’t get in the way of my reading.  I have an Australian friend who was able to let me in on what I didn’t understand. So, if you can get past the editing errors and the unfamiliar words, I recommend this book.  Michah and Sammy are a great couple, and I hope that they’ll make an appearance or two in the next book.
