In the new Second Chances novel by the author of Back to Before, even love might not prove strong enough to save a man’s promising future from a woman’s hidden past...
All he ever fought for...

Aspiring congressman Miles McAlister has dreamed of representing his hometown of Chances Inlet, North Carolina, since he was a boy. So when he’s asked to help run his mother’s bed and breakfast he moves home and rolls out his campaign at the same time. But political stardom isn’t a given, especially when he’s expected to compromise the very ideals he’s trying to uphold. Making matters worse is the inn’s stubborn, and distractingly beautiful cook. He’s loved and lost before, so falling for Lori Buchman is not part of his plan.
All she ever feared...
Lori just wants to do her job and be left alone until she can safely move on. The last thing she needs is to get involved with her boss’s son. Miles proves to be too sexy to ignore, however. Their heated fling elicits feelings deeper than either anticipated. But everything about Lori is a lie. She’s harboring a secret that’ll destroy Miles’s career, and when the truth gets out it’s going to shock Chances Inlet to its core, forcing Miles to make the hardest decision of his life.

Do you love politics and romance mixed?  I do and this book has both and is great.

Miles McAlister has had a dream since he was 10 years old to follow his father into politics.  He has returned home after his mother gets hurt to run his campaign for a congressional seat in his district and help her run her B & B.  He has had love and lost it and in his mind will never find that again nor does he want to not with all that is going on in his family and his campaign he doesn’t have the time.

Lori is the cook at the B & B and is running away.  Her goal is to help out until the owner is back on her feet and then she needs to leave again.  The last thing she wants is to cause any problems for the McAlister family – especially Miles and her past can definitely cause him problems.  The issue is the mutual chemistry between Miles and Lori is hard to ignore and the more time they spend together the more they want each other – regardless of what they think.

What I love about this author is that she writes great dialog.  Its witty, spontaneous and true and I appreciate that.  Written in dual POV’s you get to see both Miles and Lori’s perspective and it just makes you care about them that much more.  There are a lot of secondary characters; Miles’s brother and sister and others at the B & B weaved into the book and they are just as well written as Miles and Lori.  There is also a great subplot with Miles mom that I really enjoyed and would love to read that story.  This is book 2 in the Second Chance series and I have a feeling we will be seeing more of the McAlister family.

If you enjoy a great romance with some intrigue with a political backdrop than I definitely recommend this book to you.  It is as standalone so if you haven’t read book 1 (I haven’t) then you will not be lost at all.
