five-stars

Outcasts, black sheep, those who never fit in anywhere. Winter’s Wrath belongs to them. Every single member of the band rejects the norm when it comes to music.

They won’t settle when it comes to love.

Alder Trousseau, the lead guitarist in a band that owns his heart and soul, has always stood in the shadow of a man he hates. Braver “Brave” Trousseau, the voice of Winter’s Wrath.

For the success of the band, they have to work past their animosity, but that’s difficult when they have the same taste in women. And men.
Sex is a game to Brave. A game that might leave the people Alder cares for completely broken. Unless he claims them for his own.

If he steps out of the shadows, he’ll have no choice to play. To win.
On stage, the drama drives the fans insane. The songs they sing are a blood racing, body moving, warcry. But the very real battle taking place between the snares and the mic might tear the band apart.

I wasn’t sure how what to expect from this book. To be honest, I’m used to Bianca Sommerland‘s hockey series, the Dartmouth Cobras series (which by the way, I love) so I wasn’t sure what to expect from a rockstar series from her. I shouldn’t have doubted her for a second. I absolutely loved it.

With every Sommerland book you read, there are expectations. A formula is you will. You will find there is always a hero. A character who is with such a big heart, he continuously puts others happiness and welfare before his own. The broken character. This character is usually someone who believes they deserve every bad thing that happens to them. The heroine. She is usually the catalyst. The one who usually brings it all together and helps everyone see that they deserve happiness as well. And of course there is the Jerk character. We just love to hate him and can’t wait fr them to get their comeuppance even as we know that eventually, this character will change their ways for the better or at times is even more broken than we ever imagined. And of course minor secondary characters that we get so invested in that we can’t wait for their own stories down the road. Backlash is no different.

Sibling tension and band tension erupt as Alder, lead guitarist for Backlash, and his brother lead singer, Brave, constantly clash on a daily basis. Whether it is Brave’s behavior towards his brother or his blatant disregard for Alder’s feelings for their head roadie, Brave makes himself as unlikeable as Alder does likeable. Sommerland makes you feel for Alder and get invested in his ultimate happy ending. In this case it comes as a chance encounter no one really expected.

With Alder finally happy, a surprise twist, and a crazed stalker targeting Brave, Backlash turned out to be so much more than I expected. I could not seem to put it down, reading long in to the night until I finished the entire thing. Backlash is a must read for anyone who likes rockstar romance with complex characters and a happy ending. I cannot wait until book two!
