Duncan Armstrong may be an NHL star, but he’s a country boy at heart. His ultimate fantasy is going home with the Stanley Cup, not a gold-digging airhead who aspires to be a trophy wife and nothing more. Newly single and hoping to enjoy a night out with his teammates, he ends up hitting it off with a down-to-earth waitress who’s a complete breath of fresh air—until Duncan learns that she’s a part-time model. He tries to forget about her, but their sizzling chemistry has him coming back for more.

Amber is working hard to put herself through school, and has zero interest in dating a professional athlete. She’s seen firsthand how fame and fortune can mess with their heads—her father’s brilliant football career ended in a firestorm of addiction and infidelity. So Duncan’s attentions immediately have her on the defensive. Still, there’s something different about him. And once she stops trying to freeze him out, irresistible temptation turns into all-consuming passion.

I love everything Kelly Jamieson writes, especially her stories about professional athletes. This is the second book in the Chicago Aces hockey series, it is a standalone and each book is about a different hockey player on the Chicago  Aces hockey team.  I enjoyed the first book in this series about Lovey and Mark and this story is about Lovey’s brother, Duncan.

Duncan is a professional hockey player with the Chicago Aces and although he lives in Chicago, he is still a country boy at heart. When Duncan breaks up with his gold digging girlfriend, he decides to meet some of his friends for a few drinks.  This is where he meets Amber who is working as a bartender.   As Amber serves Duncan a few beers, they start to chat and flirt and an attraction starts to grow.

Amber is the exact opposite of the women Duncan usually meets.  She is down to earth, hard working and when she meets Duncan, she has no idea who he is. Amber doesn’t have any interest or time to get involved with anyone.  She is too busy working two part time jobs, going to school and supporting her mother.

Duncan is a nice guy and I found it endearing that he is self conscious around woman.   His priority has always been his hockey career, not pursuing women.  He hasn’t dated much and is not comfortable with women, until he meets Amber.  Duncan is a sweet, down to earth guy and he is always upfront and honest.

Duncan and Amber are two genuinely nice people who hit it off from the moment they meet and I loved their story and watching their relationship grow over time. I also enjoyed all the guys on the Aces hockey team. They are a close knit group and I found their antics amusing.  Whether it’s their game rituals, joking around with each other or trash talking they are a fun and entertaining group. This is a charming, fun and sexy story.
