All of Eugenia Snowe’s problems start when Edward Reeve, an arrogant bastard son of an earl, bursts into her registry office. He wants a governess and he wants her. She gives him the governess he demands, but she refuses to give herself.
No question that Eugenia enjoys crossing wits with the brilliant inventor, but she will never tarnish her reputation with an affaire, particularly with a man who doesn’t realize she’s a lady!
She holds her ground…until he kidnaps her.
Ward will stop at nothing to convince Eugenia that they’re meant to be together. He promises her heaven.
She gives him seven minutes.

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

I must admit something before I start my review. I have never read a historical romance before. Now with that being said, I do have to admit I enjoyed this novel very much.

The characters were very likable. Ward was strong and very charismatic. Taking in his two siblings he didn’t know he had was something that he didn’t see himself doing. Being born himself under not so good circumstances he knows what he needs to do to save his half siblings the same fate as himself.  His only chance is to hire a Governess of great acclaim. The problem? So far he has not been able to keep any Governess’s around. Seems his siblings Lizzie and Otis are just a little bit on the odd side. His only hope is to go the Registry himself.

Eugenia Snowe is a widow of 7 years, owns the local registry and a very noble woman. Her friends think it is time for her to find herself a husband and be the lady that she was born to be.   She is not having anything going on her life that can ruin her reputation. That is until she meets Ward. Ward wants her to be the governess to Otis and Lizzie. He wants her so much that he kidnaps her! But this isn’t that kind of story. On the way to Ward’s estate, they make a pact to be friends with benefits. Who knew that that kind of arrangement went on in those times too!

The children were a great addition to the story. They brought out a warmth to Ward that otherwise, we may not have seen. They were odd but in an Adam’s family kind of way. Loveable.

All in all, I’d have to say that this being my first ever historical romance I was very pleasantly surprised. I could tell that this was part of a series but it was not so that you must read the others to understand the characters.
