Laurie Peterson assumes her impulsive one-night stand with sinfully sexy Sheriff Ethan Booker is the biggest surprise of the year…until her bakery burns down while she’s basking in the afterglow. It looks like her dreams are up in smoke, but then Ethan proposes a deal too tempting to resist.
Ethan has no intention of settling for a one-night stand with Laurie. Nor does he want anything to do with the women his wealthy family wants him to meet. Not when he’s waited ten years for his chance to make his move. His deal might have strings—and Laurie may not know the stakes—but nothing will stop this sexy cop from staking a real claim on her body and her heart.

HARD COMPROMISE is an entertaining and sweet story.  Ten years ago Sheriff Ethan Booker fell hard for Laurie Peterson but at the time, he knew she was too young and he kept his distance. For ten years, he has watched Laurie grow up into a successful and competent women and now he is ready to make his move.

Laurie grew up on the wrong side if the tracks with a mother who was the town tramp.  Her mother never loved her and now only sees Laurie when she needs money.  Laurie never had a support system at home and her mother continually erodes her confidence.  Laurie has worked hard and saved her money and now she owns a successful bakery. When Booker finally makes his move, Laurie doesn’t take his interest seriously because their backgrounds are so different.  She doesn’t trust easily, so it takes Booker a while to convince her to let down her guard with him.

Even though Booker grew up rich and privileged, he is down to earth, nice and not affected by money.  He lives a simple life and has a wonderful family.  Booker tries to show Laurie how good they are together but she keeps pushing him away.  To be close to Laurie, Booker asks her to attend all the events associated with his sister’s upcoming  wedding.  Laurie is skittish and afraid of relationships and Booker has to work hard to convince her he is worth dating.  She likes him but is afraid to admit it to him or herself.  I enjoyed the story and the characters.  Booker and Laurie have a lot of chemistry and have a passionate relationship.
