New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken kicks off a brand-new series in which romance is a game and love is a touchdown.

Emerson just made her dream come true as a professional cheerleader for her favorite pro football team. But even though the plus-size athlete is breaking down boundaries, she still has to contend with the massive rulebook. Carbs? Nope. Chocolate? Definitely not. Still, Emerson loves her curves, and she’ll rock the hell out of this job even if it kills her. Except for one mandate that is easier read than done…

No fraternizing with the players.

Problem one is Miller Quinton: Emerson’s first love, first sex, and the guy who still ignites her daydreams and R-rated fantasies. Thrown back together, Miller and Emerson feel the undeniable pull of passion again, even if the conflict that tore them apart seems insurmountable. Then there’s way-too-sexy Grant Sanchez. He has a serious reputation with the ladies, and when it comes to winning someone he wants, he doesn’t let anyone stand in his way.

Now Emerson is breaking every rule in the manual. But what she doesn’t know is that she’s part of a wicked little game—one that could steal both her dream and her heart.

I am a huge RVD fan.  I one-click all of her books so I was thrilled to get to read Fraternize.  The blurb promised what looked like a love triangle.  I’m actually a fan of love triangles but only when the guy I want wins out.  Fair??? Probably not but the reality of my reading situation.  I loved the beginning of this book with Emerson and Miller’s back story through a series of flashbacks.  Second chance love is hard to beat and their story was absolutely heartbreaking. Emerson was everything you want in a lead female.  She is loyal, feisty, and honest.  Bonus: she is curvy and not a stick figure.  We are seeing this more and more and I’m so glad that it is becoming acceptable.  As you can imagine being curvy and a cheerleader makes for some difficulties for Emerson but she never gives up or stops following her dream.  Miller is the boy we all wanted to date in high school.  Caring, compassionate, funny and beyond loyal.  Especially to his best friend and girl Emerson.  He doesn’t have the easiest time to in high school because he is mixed race but he fights back by being a phenomenal football player.  These two seemed perfect for each other until terrible circumstances rip them apart.  By this point in the book, I was team Miller all the way.  Couldn’t imagine another guy trying to step into this relationship.  I imagined he would only be a placeholder until Miller found his way back into Emerson’s heart.

Then, a huge mistake happened.  SPOILERS AHEAD>>>>>>>> I pre-ordered the second book and read the blurb.  Nope. SUPER BAD IDEA.  Don’t do it!  I learned who Emerson ended up with and I was not happy.  I actually went back to Fraternize and almost decided not to finish it and that folks, would have been a colossal mistake.  In true RVD fashion, she hooked me into not only the story of Emerson and Miller’s lost love but she roped me into loving Grant Sanchez.  This guy had giant A-hole written all over him and it seemed he was looking at Emerson as a conquest. Boy, did he change his mind and mine in a big way.  I was beyond happy with the course of the story and adored Grant by the end.  I may have even loved him more than Miller.  I guess this says a lot about RVD and her storytelling.  She basically weaved not only one beautiful love story in Fraternize but two…..two for the price of one….that makes Fraternize a winner.

Excerpt:

“The best.” His lips grazed my ear. “Curves, know this,” His breath was hot on my neck, “If you need to cry, I’ll hold you until you’re done. Sometimes the only way to get over things, is to walk through them, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it on your own.”

My breath hitched in my chest. “Does that mean you’re going to walk with me?”

“That’s all I’ve wanted since meeting you.” He pulled back and gripped my hand. “You know, other than sex.”

I laughed, “You’re ridiculous, you know that right?”

“But, I did just make you laugh, when minutes ago you were crying. I hate those tears, Curves. Never want to be the cause of them, ever.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”

“I’m not.” He said it so sternly that I sucked in a breath. “I think I need to use that hand now…maybe on your chest, possibly that shirt.”
