She’s fighting to stay independent—he’s determined to protect her no matter what…

Brooke Richards survived the earthquake that took her parents and most of her leg, but she needs time to regroup. A trip to Florida for a state-of-the-art prosthesis and to visit her best friend Linda seems ideal. But the trip turns traumatic when Brooke witnesses Linda’s boat disintegrating in a fiery explosion.

Police officer Garrett Ciavello believes the blast was intentionally set to hide something Linda found on a dive. When Brooke offers her expertise in underwater archeology, Garrett accepts her help with the investigation. But since his fiancée’s death years ago, Garrett has become overprotective, and as they are drawn to each other, Garrett realizes he will risk anything to keep Brooke safe.

Brooke is fiercely independent. Garrett is fiercely protective. Will they heal each other’s wound and find a killer…before it’s too late?

When Brooke Richards witnesses her best friends boat blow up, she’s determined she going to get to the bottom of what happened.  She didn’t realize that she and her friends has stumbled into a psychotic killer’s attempt to cover up murder.  With a determination she hasn’t felt since the earthquake that took her leg, she vows to help Detective Garrett Ciavello and his friends solve the mystery of the explosion and the disappearance of Garrett’s cousin two months ago.

Brooke was a woman who showed a lot of courage.  After having lived through an earthquake in Egypt, suffering the loss of both her parents, her leg and ultimately her fiance, she wants to be able to prove that she can do it on her own.  Part of that independence is trying to help her friends Linda and Jeff by finding out who would want to blow up their boat.  When she finds out that their accident might be tied to Garrett’s missing cousin, she becomes even more determined to help.  It’s that drive and determination that ultimately help her overcome her fears (of the water, of her prosthetic leg) and fight.

Garrett carries around a lot of guilt and responsibility that are necessarily his.  His fiancee died in a scuba diving accident, which he feels responsible for because he was ten minutes late.  With his cousin missing, he feels responsible for pushing her away because they fought the night before she disappeared.  It took Brooke to point out to him that he carried the burden of too many things that he in no way was responsible for.  Even when his protective streak went into overdrive with Brooke, she was able to show him that she could stand on her own, both with and without him.

They were an interesting couple who definitely needed to work out their own personal issues before the road to becoming a couple could be traveled.  But in the end, they were able to prove that working together made them much stronger.

The suspense storyline has me flipping pages and rattling my brain trying to figure out who it was.  Let me tell you, at the end you will be looking at a certain profession a bit closely because this person was CRAZY!  How you could be that over the edge and still function is beyond me.

Great storyline and an enjoyable read.
