Hard life lessons have taught her that fairy tales are children’s stories, and fate is cruel. Burying her hopes, she’s spent the last sixteen years focused and driven toward her career, and it’s landed her with a job at the White House with a gem of a boyfriend. Reviewer’s Thoughts

The book I’ve been waiting for since the epilogue in BESIDE YOUR HEART. A fabulous story that is the continuation of Nicki Johnson and Adam Kincaid’s relationship, with a fifteen year break. Nothing was easy in their high school relationship, so why would it be any different for them as adults.

Nicki Johnson is now the Deputy Press Secretary under the newly inaugurated President Logan. Adam Kincaid is the BBC’s White House Correspondent.  Their jobs may dictate they have a professional relationship with each other, they soon find themselves fighting their personal feelings and what kind of repercussion that could have for them and for Nicki’s boss.

As teenagers, we got a glimpse of what Nicki and Adam could be.  But as adults, the chemistry is so much stronger, despite the fact that they didn’t jump into bed with each other.  They took their time becoming friends again, forgiving the past, before their relationship turned physical.  It gave them the time to build something solid that could withstand whatever was thrown their way.

I loved this story.  It’s one that I highly recommend, even if you haven’t read the first book in the series.  Mary Whitney has created the ultimate second chance love story that hard to put down.

About the Author

Even before she graduated from law school, Mary Whitney knew she wasn’t cut out to be a real lawyer. Drawn to politics, she’s spent her career as an organizer, lobbyist, and nonprofit executive. Nothing piques her interest more than a good political scandal or romance, and when she stumbled upon writing, she put the two together. A born Midwesterner, naturalized Texan, and transient resident of Washington, D.C., Mary now lives in Northern California with her two daughters and real lawyer husband.
