18687114The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

K.A. Tucker books are never to be missed so I was thrilled to read Burying Water. I was a huge fan of the Ten Tiny Breaths series and a bit worried that this book wouldn’t hook me the way the series did. I can say that this book hooks you from the first chapter. It is brilliantly crafted with alternating POVs that not only shift from Jane/Water and Jesse but between the past and present. We know how the story begins and how it ended but we don’t know what transpires in the middle. I felt on an endless ride of mystery trying to figure out the pieces of the puzzle all the while enjoying Tucker’s drama and romance weaved throughout the story.

Her characters are always flawed and damaged usually with extremely tragic pasts. Water/Jane’s story was hard to read at times. Violence against a woman is hard to deal with even while reading and it was heartbreaking for Water/Jane to wake up and have no memory of what happened to her. I love that she picked her name “Water” based off the only clue she has to who she was in her past.

“He said the truth is like that water: it doesn’t matter how hard you try to bury it; it’ll always find some way back to the surface. It’s resilient.”

Water is lucky that her doc’s (Meredith) family decide to take her in until she can get on her feet. And then there is Meredith son, Jesse. He’s been labeled the bad seed in their small town. He’s a little rough around the edges, but he has a good heart. There is just something about him that draws Water in. She feels better and comfortable when he comes around. She doesn’t understand it and Jesse hopes she never remembers. As her memory slowly return, her reality is not at all what she expected.

I couldn’t put this book down because I had to know what happened. The timing in this book is phenomenal. There was not a down moment. Going from past to present really made this book a page turner. This is a fantastic read and as always I will be waiting for K.A. Tucker’s next one!
