Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Reawakened – Carrie Pulkinen

I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect when the heroine makes it a point to say more than once that she has given up on love and commitment. Having faced adversity in the form of being orphaned then getting knocked up and jilted all by the tender age of 16, I could see where she would become so jaded on love. However, as I read on it became more an example of “lady dost protest too much”.  It is obvious from their first scene together that Jules is very much in love with Ian. Just as it is blindingly obvious Ian is equally in love with her. Jules spends the first half of the book telling herself that she’s not in love with Ian; she just has strong feelings of lust. Sweetheart, you had a kid at 16, if you can’t tell the difference between love and lust, there is something seriously wrong with you. Unlike your average romance novel, Jules did not set out looking for love. If anything, she was likelier to cut her losses and run at the first sign of commitment. She’d been burned once and she wasn’t looking for a repeat performance. That being said, I found it kind of endearing and very “real world”.

My only issue with this story is that for all it’s realism in Jules’ quest to avoid falling in love, she somehow found it completely believable to hear that the man she’s finally admitted to loving is a vampire. Because that is so much more believable than believing you’re finally in love again after 22 years.
