From
New York Times
Bestselling authors Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland, comes the second book in a new, sexy duet. A full summer in a beach house became a lot more interesting when I met my new boss. More interesting…and complicated.

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

Given how Rebel Heir ended, I had a feeling Rush was not going to handle the truth about Gia’s baby very well.  And he didn’t.  But I was vested in this couple’s story because I wanted to see how they got past Rush’s father and brother and what it meant for the family he was trying to build with Gia.

Rush doesn’t handle things well, but for good reason.  He has a lot of demons tied up with his brother and father, so discovering the connection between his brother and Gia threw him for a loop.  He had a hard time working through those feelings and often didn’t treat Gia the way he should, but there was never a doubt in my mind about his feeling for her.  He loved her…he just needed to figure out how to get through his emotional BS before he could finally get his act together.

I applaud Gia to sticking to her guns.  She very easily could have stayed at Rush’s house until he figured his issues out.  Instead, she kept her pride and was determined she was going to do what was best for her and her baby…either with or without him.  That was a big step for her and one I couldn’t see her making in the first book.  I guess pending motherhood brings it out in you.

A good read and a HEA that tied this duet up perfectly.  Not my favorite from this writing duo, but a solid read for any fan.

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd.  A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter.  My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
