“Promise me one thing. Promise me you’ll live.”
Claire Fortune arrives in Boston with an old notebook and her best friend’s dying wish – to finish the scribbled bucket list that Hope didn’t have time to complete. Moment by moment, Claire builds a life she never dreamed of – until Theo walks into the coffee-shop one crisp September afternoon, and her careful plans scatter on the winds.
Sometimes a chance meeting can change a life forever.Sometimes fate knows exactly what we need.
Perfect for fans of ‘Me Before You’ and ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, ‘The Promise’ brings together two people searching for a love that can overcome tragedy. A heartbreakingly romantic novel that challenges us to live – and love - every day as if it were our last.

This is such an emotional charged book, it swept me in from the first page.  Melody Grace runs you through the gambit of emotions from the start and doesn’t let up until the last word.

Claire is new to Boston, leaving her safe home in Texas she decides to take charge of her life and flees to Boston on a bus with her best friends journal.  Claire is determined to fulfill the dying wishes of her friend and while hoping to enjoy life to the fullest, something she has never done before.  She gets a job in a coffee house, makes friends and even goes to college parties.  Thinking she has it as good as its going to get – Theo walks into her life.  He shows her a love and a life she has never known before in her 19 years and never thought she would get to experience.  While she is living her life to the fullest she is holding on to a secret that can shatter her world and more importantly Theo’s but she cant hold on to her secret for long.

Told from Claire’s POV you are on an inspirational journey that breaks your heart almost every step of the way.  Ms. Grace’s writing is thoughtful, beautiful and loving – you can see/feel her putting her heart and soul into the pages of this book.   The epilogue from Theo’s POV was fantastic – to the point where I wanted more of him.  There are a lot of tears (so keep the tissue handy) but this story is about living life to the fullest and never taking those around you for granted, something I think everyone can learn and remember.  There are points I felt Claire being a little (very little) dramatic but at the end of the day she is a 19-year-old girl – who deserves to live her best life and she does with Theo by her side.

I loved every word and didn’t mind the tears or the laughter I felt reading this story.  I do hope there is a followup book from Ms Grace – it would be great to see what happens next for these characters.

“Promise me one thing. Promise me you’ll live.”

Emotional. Beautiful. Love.

Author Information

Hi! I’m Melody Grace, author of the bestselling Beachwood Bay series. Some things about me:

1 I’m a small-town girl turned California beach lover.

2 I spent my childhood with my nose in a book before deciding to try and write one myself. I love all kinds of genres – from thrillers to YA and mystery – but romance has always been a passion of mine.

3 I love pistachio ice-cream, vanilla lattes, bad action movies, and Grey’s Anatomy (yes, I’m still watching… I can’t quit!).

4 I have an uncanny sense of direction. I once drove halfway across Canada without GPS or a map!

5 I have two adorable rascal cats named Bucky and Steve, I rescued them as kittens, and yes, I spoil them rotten.

6 I’m allergic to chocolate 🙁

7 I love sexy, heart-felt reads with strong heroines and swoon-worthy men. Why don’t you check out a couple of my books and meet your new book boyfriends?
