Quirky jobs, wacky friends, hot crushes, and an unraveling marriage are all part of this darkly funny novel describing 45 year-old newlywed Wendy Sinclair’s life in Las Vegas after she impulsively decides to stay following a bizarre girls’ weekend in 2005

Wendy thought she was about to marry the love of her life.  She had been dating the Perfect man Rodger for seven years and decided it was the right time to be wed.  Things start out well on the honeymoon and Wendy thinks she is in for the perfect life and marriage.  That is until a new position opens up in another state and her and Rodger make a move from LA to Houston.  Upon arriving in Houston to a new job and a new house Wendy soon finds that things are not picture perfect.  Her new career turns out to be less then she had hoped for.  Rodger ends up working extra long hours and leaving Wendy alone.  She soon starts to feel neglected, unloved, and just restless.

Wendy gets super excited when she receives a call from a friend in LA asking her to go to Vegas for a friends wedding and some good clean fun.  However as soon as the plane lands the adventure begins.
Wendy finds  herself stuck in a classic midlife crisis.  Wondering if marrying Rodger was really the right thing to do.  So Wendy decides to stay in Vegas for just a bit longer.  It ends up landing her a job, an apartment, and a gentleman caller. However Wendy decides  to invite Rodger.  Rodger does not like the idea of  Vegas so declines.  However they have vowed to make their marriage work even over the distance.

Wendy finds herself stuck in a midlife crisis.

I personally found this book to be humorous and very true to life.  I am not 45 but have had my own ups and down with marriage. I believe we have all had these thoughts and our own personal midlife crisis at any age. I have often dreamed about running away and starting fresh.  This is exactly what Wendy has decided to do.   You need to read the book to find out the stunning conclusion she came too.

  1. Hi Cocktails and Books,

I want to thank Larissa for the 4-cocktail review of my book, A SLOT MACHINE ATE MY MIDLIFE CRISIS (April 11th). I appreciate that Larissa read the book, understood the story and characters, and posted a fair review that gives away enough of the book’s plot to get readers interested– without revealing the ending.

Thank you, Cocktails and Books. Continued success to you and Larissa–and I hope your readers, and the readers on Goodreads, will enjoy my book!
