Reviewer’s Thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed the premise of this story.  A young man longingly wishes for a woman in a photograph that he’ll never have.  He pines after her, wishing so badly he could have her, even if just for a moment.  It’s the kind of romance that pulls at your heartstrings, similar to a romantic movie like “The Lake House” where it seems impossible, yet perfect.

The characters were easily likeable.  I found myself particularly drawn to Carlson and his vulnerability, dedication, and romanticism.  Lillian as an older woman was sweet and relatable, similar to someone’s doting grandmother.  As a young woman, she was vibrant, beautiful and seductive, but in a classical romance sort of way.

I only wish that the story were much, much longer.  I would have loved to find out in more detail what transpired between the two of them.  It felt as though you only got a brief view of who each character was.  Not to mention the scenes of passion and the interactions between the two characters seemed rushed and cut off, without any true connection.

For it being a shorter story, though, it was an enjoyable read.  A little tease into what could be.  I suppose my wish would have to be that I’ll find out one day this beautiful outline of a story did indeed become a full-length novel.  Then, it would truly be an unforgettable experience, whisking me away to a beautiful place where wishes really do come true.
