New Release: All We Are by Elisabeth Grace and Michelle Lynnfour-stars

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Wildfire Marketing in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

If you saw my review for All We Were, then you know that I am not a fan of duets. I am pleased to say that this one is done well and I am so glad that I got to read both books in the set.Β  All We Are completes the story created in All We Were (Book 1), but is not just more of the same. In this concluding installment, we catch up with Lilah and James six years in the future. While authors Grace and Lynn let us know what happened in that time frame, the time hop is what really made this work for me.

Very well written, this piece of the duet is truly a complete story and it would be possible (although somewhat confusing because of the back story contained in All We Were) to read it on its own. The more mature characters are true to the personalities established before, but are much easier to like and root for their success.

My only complaint is that there are a couple of items within the story that are introduced, but not fully resolved. The biggest related to the relationship James’ was in when he and Lilah reconnected. You’ll have to read to find out who the lady is and what happened, but I will say that I felt like something was missing in how that piece of the story was resolved, it seemed a bit too clean cut. In the grand scheme of the story, this is relatively minor. It’s more of a curiosity than anything.

Overall, the Ex-Factor Duet is one that I think is worth reading, especially if you can read them together. All We Were is heavier and angst filled, All We Are is lighter and hope filled. Both are complete, if interconnected, stories.

Coming face-to-face with my
past changes EVERYTHING.

I’m at the top of my game. All my struggles have
finally paid off. Life should be great.

I mean, life is great.

Except for the fact that I can’t stop thinking
of her. The woman who mangled my heart into a bloody pulp and never looked
back.

If I could free myself of our shared memories,
my future would be golden.

There’s only one way to move onβ€”I have to
confront the past, so I can move into the next chapter of my life in peace.
Which means confronting her for the final time.

I had no idea that knocking on her door that day
would turn my life upside down.

Will I ever stop hurting the
one person who’s never hurt me?

I’ve done things I can never undo.No matter how much I wish I could, sometimes the
wounds I inflict are too deep, too catastrophic, too septic to heal.

As I look into the eyes of the only man I’ve
ever loved I know I’ve gone too far. I’ve finally crossed the line.

Even if he knew my reason for doing this, he’d
never forgive me.

He always puts my needs before his own.

Now it’s my turn to protect him.

None of that matters though because the betrayal
and disgust in his eyes comes from deep within his soul. There’s no coming back
from this.

He will forever be tormented by what he’s seen,
and he will never forgive me.

The last fragment of my heart to hold out hope
that we’d share a future, withers and dies.
