Former overachiever Lucy WillIams sucks at adulting.

Recent divorce, check.

Pending lawsuit, check.

A move back to Boston to live with her mother, triple check.

It can't get much worse, right?

When she starts her new marketing job at EXtreme Effects, she's positive shit’s stopped hitting the fan. Sure, what she's advertising is a little ... unorthodox, but it pays the bills. And since she's seconds away from becoming Lucy Williams: Wednesday Night Bingo Enthusiast, she needs money to get the hell out of her mother’s house.

The only problem is her boss, Mr. Extreme himself: Jace Exley. He’s everything any sane woman dreams of—alpha, successful, ridiculously gorgeous. He's also Lucy’s worst nightmare. Because like every overachiever, she has that underachiever she brushed off. The slacker who, once upon a time ago, was the object of her dirtiest schoolgirl fantasies.

Jace Exley—with his sarcastic smirk and delicious accent—just happens to be that guy.

And the friction between them?

Well, that's the only adulting Lucy seems to be winning at

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

There was something about the blurb and the book cover for FRICTION that drew me in.  I had to see what the man in that cover was going to do to help the heroine turn her life around.  I can definitely say, it was in the manner that he did.

Lucy finds herself living with her mother again after her marriage fell apart and her ex-husband decided to blacklist her from any potential employers.  In a last ditch effort to find gainful employment, she searches Craigslist and finds a position that seems perfect for her.  Until she discovers who her new boss is and what she’s going to be helping him market.

Jace and Lucy were an interesting mix.  She was uptight and he enjoyed messing with her.  They had sexual chemistry, which they often tried to deny.  Sure, those moments made the sexual tension leap off the page.  But I think I would have rathered these two develop a relationship that made their romance built to withstand the upcoming storm.  Instead, we get tension, denial of attraction and Jace sometimes tamping down Lucy’s already diminished self-worth.

FRICTION was a good read, but the relationship building between Jace and Lucy needed to be a bit more in order to jumped this into the great read category for me.
