Reviewer’s Thoughts

4.5 Cocktails

I love mysteries. Especially when they’re creatively out of the norm – as this one achieves beautifully. It’s set in the Ozarks, during a craft fair, which, if you’ve ever been to the Ozarks, is absolutely gorgeous. Ms. Nehring has a knack for painting a picture with words, and before you know it, you’re swept into the scenery and right in to the middle of the character’s lives at the fair. The sights, the smells, the people – they all come alive with every turn of the page.

The main characters in the book, Carrie and Henry are uniquely fun. They’re enjoying their marriage and their easy-going lifestyle. But when Carrie receives a phone call from a woman claiming to know her, Carrie and Henry become skeptical of her intentions, and invite her over to find out just what it is that she’s up to. When they meet her and discover that she’s Carrie’s cousin, they find out that her life is full of dark secrets, and her connections to some nasty drug dealers end up putting Carrie, Henry, and several of their friends in danger.

A Fair to Die For is a very well written book with a wonderful mystery. It’s full of well-developed characters and a plot that is interesting and exciting. Carrie and Henry were so much fun to get to know, and I was absolutely delighted to find out that this was the 7th book in the series! I’ll definitely be checking out the rest, and hope others will too!

(This book is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone.)
