Falling for someone can be dangerous, especially when someone wants to take them away from you. But what happens when fighting for the one you love could cost them their life?
For over two years, Summer Jacobs has tried to get her life back on track. A former nurse and now a prestigious restaurant owner, she’s living the dream just like her husband wanted. After watching him get killed in the MMA ring and almost losing her life herself, it left a scar on her soul. The thought of moving on scares her, but the local NFL star, Evan Townsend, is determined to catch her heart.
Forced to work with him and the football team, Summer succumbs to his relentless attempts at capturing her heart. He has the power to heal her, but there’s someone out there who wants to keep them apart. Even if it means getting rid of Evan permanently. Summer is being chased by hidden dangers and it’s up to Evan to catch her. The question is . . . will he get to her in time?

This is a breathtakingly beautiful story and the sixth book in the Second Chances series.  I have only recently discovered L P Dover and I can’t get enough of her writing.  I love her stories and characters and I have enjoyed her Second Chance series.   My favorite genre is sports romance and that is what drew me to this story about Evan Townsend, an NFL football player with the Carolina Cougars.

Evan has been bidding his time, hoping to eventually get a chance to spend time with Summer Jacob, but he has been hesitant to approach her because he knows she has been through a lot.  When Evan sees his opportunity, he doesn’t hesitate to let Summer know he is interested.  He is willing to move at whatever pace that make Summer comfortable.  I love how Evan treats Summer; he is tough and protective yet he also has a charming, tender, sweet side and he is willing to do anything for her.   Summer feels safe with Evan and she knows she can trust him.   There is a lot of chemistry between them and Evan shows Summer how to enjoy life and have fun again.  They have a great relationship and are honest and straight forward with how they feel about each other, it is outside forces which try to tear them apart.

Summer’s past is heartbreaking. She keeps reliving the horrors of what she had to endure and can’t seem to move forward.  She is hurt and scared from her past and is afraid to take a chance and love again.  She has recently opened a restaurant with her twin sister and with the help of her sister, therapy and some close friends she is trying to learn to live again.

Along with romance there is also some mystery and suspense in this story. There is someone after Evan but I was never able to figure it out, until the very end.  This story has so many wonderful secondary characters and while I was reading it I kept thinking about all the future stories I would like to read.  I especially want to find out how everything turns out for Derek.  This story is told from both Evan and Summer’s POV, so  knew what they are each thinking and that is always a plus for me.  This is a charming well written story with great dialogue and likable characters and although there is some drama, there is very little angst.
