Reviewer’s Thoughts
I found this series after reading the serial set in the same world. I was very excited to read a full novel set in this world that fascinates me. I had given up on vampire romance a while ago, but Caris Roane breathed fresh life into it for me.
Lucian is a tortured hero, quite literally, he’s being tortured by his very evil father when Claire comes to his rescue. Claire is a human, and doesn’t really know all that she’s getting into but she does know she needs to rescue Lucian so he can help her find her friend.
Claire gets a crash course in vampire politics and the world. Claire takes it all in stride and I loved that she’s definitely a strong heroine, and that the author does a good job portraying that strength and even goes so far as to set it up so that Claire can spotlight her strength and choice.
I think if I hadn’t read the serial and been even more immersed in the politics and structure of this world, I would have still been able to enjoy and follow the plot of this story as a standalone. I did enjoy getting to check up on characters I’ve met in the past, and I absolutely adored Lucian and look forward to reading more stories about his family and this fascinating world.
The plot wraps up nicely, and I highly recommend this story for fans of vampire romance that has its own unique elements.
