21523038From the moment FBI agent Jessica Manning arrives in the small town of New Hope to investigate the tragic—and suspicious—deaths of two civilians and a fellow agent, she is annoyed by the interference of the local sheriff, Jackson Montgomery. She fumes when Jackson forbids her from continuing her investigation without his assistance, but since her mission is off-the-record and unapproved by the agency, she has no choice but to feign cooperation with the handsome lawman.

To her surprise and horror, Jessica soon learns that Jackson isn’t asking for her obedience, he is demanding it, and when he catches her out looking for leads behind his back, he pulls her over his lap and spanks her bare bottom until she’s sobbing. Her promises to behave are soon forgotten, however, when a mysterious note promising new information appears under her hotel door.

It is only when the Assistant Deputy Director of the FBI shows up in New Hope, cautioning Jessica to back off if she knows what’s good for her, that she fears she might be in over her head and asks Jackson for his help… even if his help results in a bright red, sore bottom. But can the strict sheriff and the feisty agent unravel this tangled web in time, or will they end up paying with their lives for exposing the truth?

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Jessica Manning goes to New Hope, a small town, to investigate the death of a fellow FBI agent and two civilians. Jessica is convinced that there is more to the story. She is annoyed that the local sheriff interferes with her unofficial investigation. Jessica is a good woman with a great heart willing to do what she needs to so she gets answers. I loved how independent Jessica is.

Jackson Montgomery is the local sheriff of New Hope. He is attracted to Jessica at first sight. He is an alpha male right to the bone. He demands that Jessica do what he wants her to do right from the start. Jackson is a hot and sexy man. I loved how Jackson was willing to push Jessica to obey him almost from the beginning.

The chemistry between Jackson and Jessica is blistering right from the start. The sex scenes were scorching. Jackson and Jessica are perfect for each other. I loved that no matter how much Jessica did what Jackson did not want her to do, he was still there for her (and to punish her later).

This book was well written with interesting and engaging characters. I read this book in one sitting. I hope we get to see these characters again in the future. Overall, this was a great book that mixed hot and sexy characters with a mystery.
