The new Deadly Ops novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Shattered Duty—in the series that delivers “fast-paced romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat!”* When an assassin tries to kill undercover DEA agent Tucker Pankov the same week his boss is taken out, Tucker has good reason to be paranoid. And when other members of his elite team are not only targeted, but stripped of top-secret security clearance, Tucker has one shot at discovering who wants them dead—and why. So he kidnaps the only woman he thinks can save them. Brilliant NSA analyst Karen Stafford doesn’t like being forced into anything, especially by someone she doesn’t trust. Yet after a hijacked US-owned drone starts attacking government installations resulting in mass casualties, Karen has to take Tucker’s side.  Now, two unlikely allies must unite to prevent an escalating and unthinkable terrorist conspiracy. But as Tucker and Karen grow intimate, they realize the conspiracy runs deep, and their enemies are closer than anyone realized.

I love a great suspense romance and Edge of Danger is that.

This is a story of Tucker who is a leader of a team of highly trained undercover DEA agents whose boss was murdered.  As the members of Tucker’s team come home from their undercover assignments each one is attacked in their homes.  As they are trying to figure out what is going on an attack on an embassy party in Washington DC that implicates them for the attack and the murder of their boss.  The only person they can trust is an old navy buddy of their boss who is a director at the NSA and in order to get to him they kidnap one of his most trusted field analysts, the figure that if they can convince her of their innocence he will help clear their name.

Kate is an NSA analyst who is very good at her job, so good she has been tracking one of Tucker’s more scary aliases so when he comes after her when she is jogging she is rightfully scared out of her mind.  Not to mention there are 3 other very large scary members of the team who she is convinced are going to kill her.  Once they get to the safe house she starts to notice right away things aren’t what they seem and maybe the story they are telling her maybe it’s the truth.  Tucker and Kate end up getting separated from the team and the more time Kate spends with Tucker it becomes more clear that he is telling the truth – now she needs to convince her boss of that to help clear Tucker and the others names.

This is a fast paced book told from multiple POV’s, so you have the 2 main characters, the bad guys who are trying to frame Tucker and team and Kate’s NSA team who are beyond worried about her.  As in this type of situation feelings are elevated and while I believe that Tucker and Kate are meant to be, the speed (24 hours) that they get together in this book is lightening fast.  I thought the authors writing style was well done especially when it comes to showing Tucker’s vulnerability.  You can see him really beat himself up over what he had to do to clear his name and bring his friends killer to justice and he believes with all the things he has done he is not worthy of Kate.  Kate is strong and handles herself well in difficult situations and once she believes in something or someone she does everything she can to help.  They are so good for each other everything just happens very quickly.

All in all this is a fun book – I did have a few questions that weren’t really answered for me, was confused on the team’s hierarchy not sure how that worked and while there was a great epilogue I didn’t get a clear picture of what Tucker decided to do with his life.  That being said both were minor in the overall scheme of the story.
