Review: Mating Season – Alice Gaines

Being stuck together in a redwood forest can really bring your inner animal out . . .

The last thing Gayle Richards wanted was to spend days alone in a cabin with Nolan Hersch, fellow professor and macho loudmouth. How could she observe the animals’ mating habits alongside a man who made her blood boil . . . and not just in anger? The only thing more frustrating than Nolan’s opinions on male sexual superiority was how much he made her want to rip his clothes off.

Well, the thin air in the mountains must have gone to Gayle’s head, because she sets up a challenge: three days to prove who’s more insatiable in bed. With Gayle and Nolan making their best efforts to wear each other out, this may just be the sexiest experiment of all.

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

Gayle Richards and Nolan Hersch both study the mating habits of animals.  Due to a grant she received, Gayle has invited Nolan and 2 of his research assistants to join her as she plans on observing the mating season of the Elk.  But she’s also hoping that the three days she has Nolan to herself she can use to prove to him that his judgement on the fairer sex and who is actually in charge during the mating season are wrong.

I had a hard time with this one because I didn’t particularly like Gayle.  I get that she was trying to prove a point with Nolan, but using sex the way she did felt wrong.  She pushed the envelope to prove to Nolan that his thoughts on the female species being submissive were wrong. But I think she could have gone about proving that point in a manner that didn’t feel like she was taking the consent away from Nolan.

Nolan wasn’t the greatest either, since he had documented some pretty antiquated viewpoints on the mating rituals of animals and sometime even put those belief in practice when dealing with woman.  However, he was a big enough man to admit that he was wrong when he was provided with all the evidence.  That alone prove to me that maybe Gayle didn’t have to do what she did to get him to see reason.  If you’re attracted to the man and want to try and build a relationship, fine, have at it.  But to use sex as a way of proving her point…not so much.
