Passion is always worth fighting for…
Jori Garrison trains dogs for Warrior Wolf Pack, which provides service animals for disabled veterans. Four years ago, she was wrongly convicted of a crimeβ€”thanks to her no-good ex-fiancΓ©. Now she just wants to live her life in peace with her beloved dogs. No men, no complications. But it’s hard to play it cool when a lethally hot male is on her tailβ€”and the attraction is fierce, mutual, and dangerous…
PRIMAL FORCE
Lauray "Law" Batisse is a Military Police veteran who was wounded in Afghanistan. Haunted by the loss of his K-9 partner in combat, he’s reluctant to accept a service dog named Samantha into his life. But once he meets her trainerβ€”the gorgeous Jori Garrisonβ€”he can’t fight his primal instincts. And neither can Jori. This sexy alpha male might be the only man strong enough to unleash her desires. And when unseen enemies start hunting them down, he and his new K-9 partner might be her only hope… to survive.

DD. Ayres is a new author for me. Based on the synopsis of this book, I expected a slightly fast paced story with lots of intrigue and some sexy time with a hot alpha guy. That’s not really what the book delivered…

What the book did deliver; a well written and fun story with two great main characters and an interesting supporting cast. There is lots of romantic/sexual tension and some great sexy time. There is intrigue and a conspiracy, but nothing too dramatic.

Our main characters are Jori, a (wrongfully convicted) ex-con turned dog trainer and Law, a military and police K-9 officer who was wounded overseas several years ago. When we meet them Law is in a horrible place and really comes across as a jerk. Jori is on the right track of getting her life together. They fight their attraction to each other while Law is getting his new service dog before finally being together for a one-afternoon stand.

The story that follows is entertaining. It is fun to watch Law coming back to life as he returns to his job and can’t stop thinking about Jori. It was telling for me that he requested she be the one to do his in home evaluation even after telling her they were done. He claimed it was because he was looking into her case, but was it really?

The author does a great job of showing us Jori and Law’s developing, if somewhat unusual, relationship and weaving a story if corruption and cover ups that impact Jori’s history. One of my favorite part of the book was the character of Sam, Law’s service dog. Not only do we see her in action, but we also get to be in her head.

Even though Primal Force wasn’t exactly what I expected, it was a book I definitely enjoyed and look forward to reading more from this author and this series.

I am a full time mom who works part time. I squeeze reading in wherever I can between work, volunteer stuff, and kid activities. I read a little bit of everything, but really enjoy indie authors and Happy- Ever-Afters. I've been reviewing for Cocktails and Books since January 2015.
