Posted June 1, 2014 by Shannon in / 0 Comments

19448492Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Tristan Howe is abducted and imprisoned by a pack at war with his own. His future looks bleak until he finds an unexpected ally in enemy pack member, Colby Williams. A fragile bond develops between them as they escape together.

Once he’s safely back with his own pack, Tristan finds his feelings for Colby are more than just gratitude for being rescued. He’s delighted to learn that they’re reciprocated, and even more excited to realize he and Colby are mates.

But idealistic Tristan finally has to face up to the fact that even true love might not be enough to defeat the forces ranged against themβ€”not least his pack-mates’ suspicion and hostility toward Colby, and a mate so scarred by his abusive past that he doesn’t know how to be free. All Tristan can do is try.

NOTE: Beta hero raped during the story. It is not described in detail and is not intended for titillation.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Joy Lynn Fielding’s “Red Moon Rising” is the third installment of the “Strength of the Pack” series. I have to say that the stories keep getting better as they go along.

This is Tristan’s story. Tristan is the youngster of the pack. He’s smart, and he’s idealistic, and he’s very trusting. One day, he finds himself in a dark room, having been kidnapped by another pack who is out to destroy his. Enter Colby. He’s the lover of the Beta wolf in his pack. It’s not love, though. He’s treated badly by a VERY bad man. Colby feels bad for the handsome captive, and they strike up a bit of a kinship.

I’m not going to tell you any more. Like I said, the books in the series keep improving, and I enjoyed this book more than the others. If I had one complaint, it would be that the love/mate relationship between Tristan and Colby seemed very sudden. I realize that there are time constraints in a shorter novel, but this one did feel a little more rushed than the others. However, the characters and the story make up for it. Of course, as in all of Joy Lynn Fielding’s books, the sex is very detailed and extremely hot. I do love a well written M/M sex scene! However, what really got me was the intrigue and action. This is good stuff, folks! It’s a well thought out, smoothly written story with a satisfying climax.

If I were you, I wouldn’t try to read this book as a stand alone. You’d be doing yourself a disservice if you did. Start at the beginning with “An Impossible Mate” and go from there. The pack is very loyal, and all of the members play important roles in every book. If you tried to dive in without dipping your toes first, you’ll find yourself a bit lost.

I highly recommend this one.
