Texas Hold 'Em (853x1280)Part law enforcement. Part criminal. And all deliciously bad…

Working undercover as part of an elite team of Rangers disguised as the Smokin’ ACES biker gang, Timothy Santos walks the thin line between law-enforcer and law-breaker. With one of his informants missing—and possibly dead—at the hands of vicious cartel leader El Brujo, Santos will do whatever it takes to find justice. Even if it means heading to Rio County to look up his former lover…who’s not only the sheriff, but Santos’s only lead.

Rose Renwick is not happy to see Santos. In the past, their chemistry had been explosive—raw, sensual, and unforgettable—but she’d been burned. Now Santos is back in town, looking just as lethal and as irresistible as she remembered. But Santos wants something from her—and suddenly Rose’s family is in danger and her town is under attack. The only way out is to trust the one man she swore never to trust again. Ante up…

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Texas Hold ‘Em is the first in the new series Smokin’ ACES.

Timothy Santos is a Texas Ranger who is deep under cover with his team disguised as a motorcycle gang trying to bring down the head of a rather large drug operation that comes across the boarder from Mexico. When his informant inside goes quiet he has to bring in the local law for help, that could be a problem since the sheriff is his ex-girlfriend.

Why did Santos have to come back into her life was the first thing Rose Renwick thinks when she is rescued by him. Rose was finally moving on and putting Santos behind her and now he is back asking for her help to find his informant before it is to late.

Texas Hold ‘Em is equal parts suspense novel and romance. Ms David includes some pretty gripping and sometimes horrifying scenes in her book to really give you a feel for what Santos and Rose are up against with the drug cartels and the very sick people who run them, at the same time we have a second chance romance with both the hero and the heroine being pretty tough.

I enjoyed the story and when reading it with an eye to there will be more books in the series then some of the sub-plots that are born and go no where make much more sense. Being a pretty big mystery buff I figured out Santos deep dark secret early but it is well played through the book. My biggest issue was that the story at times seemed a little choppy but as I said over all it was a fun read with quite the roller coaster of emotions and levels of excitement.
