Corporate Maverick Zach Tanner returns to North Carolina to rebuild his dying friend's resort. He's got the money, the power, and the will to transform Sweetbriar Springs into a premier spa for the glamorous, but he doesn't count on the woman he once loved…and lost…to handle the construction contract. Zach thought he'd buried his desire for Kennedy five years ago. He was wrong, and now he’s determined to satisfy his craving... Construction company owner Kennedy Gibson is eager to restore Sweetbriar Springs, but when she realizes Zach is her new boss she's terrified he'll learn the truth about their breakup so long ago. She vowed never to hurt him again, but she can't deny the passion he reignites in her. She wants to believe she has a chance for a different future with him, but will her secret threaten to destroy their red-hot reunion?

Here is a story about Kennedy and Zach who were friends, fell in love and were engaged 5 years ago and broke off the engagement when a tragedy struck. Β They are thrown back together years later when one of their best friends os diagnosed with ALS and both promise to finish a property expansion for the friends upcoming benefit.

I really wanted to love this book and I believe it had a lot of potential that I wish the author took advantage of and really didnt. Β When Zach and Kennedy are forced to fake a new engagement to help their friend thru his difficult time we as the reader never got a pay off on that precieved difficult conversation. Β  I was hoping the friend had manipulated the situation to throw them into the fake engagement and it wasn’t the case, all we as the reader was told is that he had figured it out but never got the pay off.

The reason why Kennedy broke off the engagement originally was a little hard for me to swallow. Β Also since Kennedy and Zach are part of a close nit group why did it take 5 years to reconnect? Β  I dont mind suspending believe, it has to be done in some cases but in this case the story has to many plot holes and as a reader I never got the pay off of as to why the hero and herione deserve their HEA. Β I wish it had.
