The New York Times bestselling author of Too Dangerous for a Lady returns with another roguishly delicious Regency romance... Since being widowed two years ago, Kitty Cateril has been trapped in her late husband's home, where she is expected to mourn forever. Desperate to escape, Kitty will consider any option—even a hasty marriage to a stranger with no intention of abandoning his bachelor ways.   London life suits Beau Braydon, especially his work keeping Britain safe. So when he inherits the title of Viscount Dauntry, he has no intention of resettling on a rural estate. He can’t resist the opportunity to marry a sensible widow who can manage Beauchamp Abbey for him—until he realizes Kitty is more than he bargained for...   Before Kitty and Dauntry can adjust to each other, a threat to the royal family takes them to London. Soon someone is determined to prevent Dauntry from exposing the villain, and secrets in Kitty's past threaten their growing love...

I’ve been reading a lot of contemporary romance lately, so The Viscount Needs a Wife was a nice change of pace.

Set in early 19th Century England, we meet Kitty and the Viscount Daughtry. She is a widow trapped by circumstances living with her husband’s family and miserable. The Viscount is newly elevated to his position and has inherited issues he’d rather not deal with. For some reason, he decides that a wife is what he needs.

I have to admit that initially, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Kitty and Braydon, especially Braydon as he seemed incredibly stiff. The more time I spent with them, the more I enjoyed them. I appreciated Kitty’s pluck. Once she made the decision that her current situation wasn’t tolerable, she took the available steps to change it. She showed a great deal of bravery to enter into the marriage with Braydon and then a good deal of ingenuity when dealing with the situations she was faced with. Braydon was a character that you definitely had to know to like, but it was nice to watch him bloom the longer he spent time with Kitty.

Kitty is a slightly unusual character for the time period involved, but not so brash that she couldn’t fit in. Individually, these are nice and fun characters. Together, they are a treat to watch. They journeyed from complete strangers to spouses to people in love in a short period of time, but it was believable and sweet to see.

If you like historical romance, then you will also enjoy meeting Kitty and Braydon in The Viscount Needs a Wife.

I am a full time mom who works part time. I squeeze reading in wherever I can between work, volunteer stuff, and kid activities. I read a little bit of everything, but really enjoy indie authors and Happy- Ever-Afters. I've been reviewing for Cocktails and Books since January 2015.
