five-stars

New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett goes for a hat trick with the latest romance in a sexy series about cool-as-ice hockey players and the women heating up their lives.   Warning: The following contains spoilers from a cliffhanger in Garrett.   Rising star Zack Grantham has been stuck in a downward spiral of grief that has put his career on hold. Back on the road with the Carolina Cold Fury, still crippled by emotional baggage, and now a single dad, he’s in need of some serious help with his son. But while the nerdy new nanny wins his son’s heart, Zack isn’t sure he’s ready for a woman’s touch—even after getting a glimpse of the killer curves she’s hiding under those baggy clothes.   Kate Francis usually keeps men like Zack at a distance. Though his athlete’s body is honed to perfection, he refuses to move on with his life—and besides, he’s her boss. Still, the sparks between them are undeniable, tempting Kate to turn their professional relationship into a personal one. But before she makes a power play for Zack’s wounded heart, Kate will have to open him up again and show him that love is worth the fight.   Praise for Sawyer Bennett and the Carolina Cold Fury series   “Sawyer Bennett never fails to deliver heroes I fall hard for and heroines I adore.”—New York Times bestselling author Violet Duke   “Wow. Karen’s Thoughts

ZACK is captivating story that held me spellbound from start to finish.  Zack Grantham is a professional hockey player and is having a difficult time moving forward after a tragedy changes his life.  The only things that keep him getting up each day are hockey and his young son Ben.   Zack decides to hire Kate as his young son’s nanny, because he needs help with Ben while he is on the road with the team.  Kate turns out to be the perfect choice and is wonderful with Ben.  Kate is also patient with Zack and doesn’t take anything he says or does personally. She realizes he is still grieving. I like Kate’s independent spirit. She is smart, upbeat and quirky and she never lets anything get her down.  She tells Zack exactly what she thinks, weather he wants to hear it not and she brings laughter back into his life with all her silly jokes. Kate is nerdy, but cute and she is exactly what Zack needs in his life right now.  However, Kate does have a few issues of her own.  She hides behind baggy clothes and glasses and she pulls her long gorgeous hair back in a bun.  Once Zack finds out what Kate looks like behind the baggy clothes she wears, he can’t stop thinking about her.  As Zack gets to know Kate he starts to fall for her, but he keeps pulling back and giving her mixed signals because he feels guilty for being attracted to her.

This is a well written story with realistic characters that are easy to connect with and Zack and Kate have great chemistry together. Zack is easy to like, he is a good guy trying to work through his issues and he is a wonderful caring father to his son Ben.   In this story we are given both Kate and Zack’s perspective, so we know what both of them are thinking and feeling.  I’m a big fan of Sawyer Bennett and love everything she writes especially her hockey series.  This is the third book in the Cold Fury Hockey series and each book is a stand-alone featuring a different player on the Cold Fury team.  I can’t wait to read Ryker’s story in the next book in the Cold Fury Hockey series.
