The last thing vampire bodyguard Zane wants to do is to guard a hybrid, a half-vampire, half-human, whose father wants to keep her a virgin. Known for his violent temper and callous lack of compassion, Zane’s out-of-control rage, born of the cruelty he suffered during the Holocaust, drives him to focus only on revenge. Trying to find the last of his torturers is his only goal in life.
Portia is a young hybrid with a serious dilemma: in a few weeks, her body will be set in its final vampire form. If she is to avoid having to live out her immortal life as a virgin, she must find a lover in that short time—something her father hires Zane to prevent.
The moment Portia and Zane meet, rules begin to bend, and a forbidden attraction bursts into flames hotter than the hell of Zane’s past. But that past threatens to pull them apart unless they can overcome their prejudice, forsake hate for love, and revenge for forgiveness.

Oh Zane!  My tortured, broken, vulnerable, emotional Zane.  You will now share mantel space with my other favorite Z-man and top vampire boyfriend.

Zane has been the vampire with the Scanguards group that was the loose cannon.  The one everyone was sure was going to flip out and do something they thought they would need to execute him for.  And while Zane may come off as a cold-hearted bastard, he’s actually the one who will do what no one else will to those that do unspeakable harm.

Forced into a babysitting job after he butchered a man he found raping a girl, Zane is pissed at the world but also willing to do what he needs to in order to keep his “family” at Scanguards.  He’s prepare for just about anything when he first meets Portia, his charge, but that didn’t include how beautiful she was or the feelings that she stirred in him.

Portia hated the fact that her father had hired bodyguards to babysit her while she was gone, but she was more certain to put her plan into place to lose her virginity.  She would be 21 in a few weeks and then her body would freeze the way it is.  If she was still a virgin at that time, she would spend the rest of her very long life having painful sex.  She thought she had the perfect college co-ed to do it until she met the night bodyguard.

Portia and Zane are awesome together.  She’s not intimidated by his gruffness and his supposed animosity towards her.  He can’t explain why he’s so attracted to this half breed, but she makes him feel things he hasn’t felt in 60 years.  He’s been a shell of a man since he escaped the concentration camps in Germany.  When he finally lets go and embraces those feelings for Portia he becomes that alpha male that is all soft and squishy at the center.

I adored this story  and think it’s the absolute best so far in the series.  You must, must, must read it!

I am a lover of alpha males with dirty mouths, strong heroines putting alpha males in their place, and the Chicago Blackhawks. I'm a proud hockey mom who can often be found at the hockey rink cheering on my favorite forward, with my kindle close by.
