four-stars

All Ryan Newell wants to do his prove to his brothers he is just as capable as them of going out on a mission. This time they actually listen, sending him out to rescue three men from a cult that is holding them prisoner. Right from the start things go wrong. One of the prisoners, Zach Landen, manages to break out of his cell and holds him at knife point.

Ryan hates the idea of calling for back up but knows he needs to after he learns Zach is very ill. It’s second nature for Ryan to take care of Zach, but Ryan’s giving nature has gotten him in trouble before. Does he really want to get hurt again?

I’m so happy to have stumbled upon April Kelley and her “Lakehouse Security” series.  Well…the first two, anyway 🙂  I love MM stories with Alpha men, and these books have Alphas to spare.

In the first book, “Sudden Love”, a very interesting plot involving a a cult devoted to “converting” gay men is revealed.  It’s a great story with tons of potential.  In “Hostage Love”, we have Ryan Newell.  He works with his brothers at their family security business, and he is charaged with rescuing the remaining victims that Aaron (from book one) had to leave behind when he escaped.  One of those victims, Zach Landen is very sick, and Ryan gets him out while his brother and another man rush to rescue the others.

From here on out, we get to see the developing relationship between Ryan and Zach.  From Ryan nursing Zach back to health, to their growing attraction, to Zach’s confrontation with his parents, we are treated to two characters who grabbed our attention (and our hearts) from the very beginning.  It’s not a long book, but it has the feel of one.  Even though there isn’t a lot of time, Ryan and Zach are well fleshed out and we do feel like we know them.  Their chemistry is instant and powerful.  Their feelings are almost desparate, and thanks to that, we root for them because it’s obvious that Zach will have a LOT of issues to sort through thanks to what he went through.

As I mentioned, this is book two of the “Lakehouse Security” series.  I suppose it could be read as a standalone, but I don’t recommend that.  “Sudden Love” sets everything up, and it also introduces most of the characters that will be found in the upcoming installments.  I’m so glad to have been able to get in on the ground floor here.  I think you will be too.  Definitely get this one.

I am a lover of alpha males with dirty mouths, strong heroines putting alpha males in their place, and the Chicago Blackhawks. I'm a proud hockey mom who can often be found at the hockey rink cheering on my favorite forward, with my kindle close by.
