Another "searingly sexy"* romance awaits in the latest Wicked Lovers novel from the New York Times bestselling author of His to Take. Ever since he rescued her from a dangerous kidnapper, Mystery Mullins has wanted Axel Dillon. When he returned her to her Hollywood father and tabloid life, she was grateful…and a little in love. Mystery wasn’t ready to let Axel go, even after the soldier gently turned her away because, at nineteen, she was too young. Now, six years later, Mystery is grown, with a flourishing career and a full life—but she’s still stuck on Axel. Disguised, she propositions him in a bar, and the night they spend together is beyond her wildest dreams. Mystery steels herself to walk away—except the sheets are barely cold when her past comes back to haunt her. Once he realizes Mystery isn’t the stranger he thought, Axel is incensed and intrigued. But when it’s clear she’s in danger, he doesn’t hesitate to become her protector—and her lover—again. And as the two uncover a secret someone is willing to kill for, Axel is determined to claim Mystery’s heart before a murderer silences her for good.

There’s a lot I’ve come to expect from Shayla Black. A wickedly good story filled with action and some really hot heroes to start with. In this case I have to admit to feeling a bit misled by the title. Except for two scenes which I would term as light bdsm, there wasn’t much “Wicked” about the entire book. Don’t get me wring, Shayla Black is a favorite of mine and a guaranteed great read even on a bad day. However this particular book missed the boat in the wickedness level.

This is not to say that I was in the least disappointed in the story. The plot was well thought out and the characters had a sense of depth. This went for all the characters, not just the principle hero and heroine, but supporting characters as well. From the moment I began reading the book, I was thoroughly engrossed in it. I just couldn’t put it down. A mystery that had even me guessing added to the appeal of the story. Black kept me guessing through the entire book, clear through the end.

These characters were far from perfect. Both Mystery and Axel have their flaws and hangups that require a lot of patience and probably a few drinks just to get over them. However, these just served to humanize both of them. I’m hoping Heath gets his own story soon. I’d love to read what happens to him going forward.

Great story line, fantastic characters and a mystery that keeps you guessing as to the who and why when all the likely suspects have alibis. This is definitely a keeper. One you will want to bring back out and read more than once.
