A new stand alone enemies-to-lovers romance by USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde...

I always wanted a nice normal boyfriend. The kind you could bring home to your parents. Instead, I fell for Austin Wright.

We tried this once and failed. Hard.

I swore the bad boy Wright who set my body on fire would never get a second chance, because our love is heroin laced gasoline--addicting and destined to go up in flames.

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

Lordy! This was a tough one to get through. Austin did not take the easy path and Julia didn’t cut him any slack. But when you get to that epilogue it was worth it.

Austin had issues.  If you’ve been following this series, you know Austin and a bottle of alcohol were best friends.  Everyone knew it and everyone turned a blind eye to it.  But it’s the woman whose heart he broke that finally makes Austin realize something has to change in his life.

Austin and Julia’s relationship isn’t easy.  When he was somewhat sober, Austin was practically the perfect boyfriend.  He was sweet, funny and was proving to Julia that he wasn’t the guy she thought he was.  But you knew he was going to fall, because at the rate Austin had been living a stumble wasn’t going to force him to make a change.

Julia may have kept a somewhat eagle eye on Austin’s alcohol intake, but it seemed like no one else in his was as diligent.  His brothers and sisters knew he had an issue, but they never intervened.  His best friend never stepped up because a drunk Austin is a fun Austin.  I spent a lot of time while reading this book wishing someone would step up.  How could they just let him drown himself the way he was?

This was a tough read, but I think K. A. Linde did an awesome job of weaving a story where Austin screws up and had to figure out what he wants.  Austin had to learn to love himself and learn how to deal with his parents’ death.  He had to take that step and journey, which made getting to the HEA of this book so, so satisfying.  Austin lived a pretty easy life, but he proved that he could grit it out, learn from his mistakes and live the life he wanted.
