Top 5 Indie Authors (In no particular order)

Rosalind James

One of the first self-published authors I discovered; Rosalind’s books appealed to me because they were different. Her first series, Escape to New Zealand, focused on rugby players and the women who fall in love with them.

In addition to exotic locations, Rosalind’s work includes wonderful characters. Her female characters are all smart and strong in their own ways. Her heroes are Alpha men with a soft side. When they get together, things get steamy in the bedroom (and other places) as they face the challenges that life throw at them.

All of Rosalind’s book have certain things in common, the biggest being the core personality traits her characters have, but each book is completely unique.

Isabelle Richards

Isabelle was my first real introduction into the Indie world. Shannon (of Cocktails and Books) suggested that I check Isabelle’s group out and read her debut novel, When Fates Collide. I was blown away by the book and Isabelle’s ability to pull me in and make me feel right along with her characters. You honestly do not READ Isabelle’s books, you experience them and feel completely rung out when you are done.

The other thing I discovered with Isabelle, was a level of reader/author interaction that I had never experienced before. Not only does Isabelle welcome her readers with open arms and give them a vehicle for interacting with each other, she actively participates when she can and gives us a wonderful glimpse into the lady behind the wonderful word.

Adriana Locke

In every one of Adriana’s books that I’ve read (and I’ve read all of them except a novella), there is some part of the story that I really connect to. When I read Sacrifice, I wondered if it was because my own life experience gave me a small frame of reference to what Jada, one of the main characters, was going through. The more I read, the more I realized that I personally had nothing in common with any of the other characters or situations. What I was relating to wasn’t anything to do with me, but something created by a very talented author. Adriana pulls you into characters and situations that you just can’t help but wanting to get to know and see what happens next.

Her female lead characters are all smart, strong women who have faced some type of adversity. Male characters have varying degrees of Alpha, but love with their whole heart.

Dianne Duvall

The shear imaginative power behind the Immortal Guardians series absolutely blows me away. Ms. Duvall has created an entire world that blends the paranormal and romance with a twist I’ve not seen before. The complexities and relationships that must be maintained for the series to work are immense and just getting bigger as we move deeper into the Guardians world. Ms. Duvall does a fantastic job within each book of reminding readers what has happened while also introducing new characters and information – all without making the reader feel that they are drowning in information.

JC Hannigan

I was a little reluctant to read JC’s first book, Collide, because of the subject matter. I really wasn’t sure how I felt about the whole teacher/student romantic relationship when the main character is in high school. A group read got me to put aside my reservations and ended up creating a die-hard JC fan.

JC has a way of pulling you into the story and making you think about what is going on instead of just experiencing it. She managed to take a concept that honestly makes me uncomfortable and still had me rooting for and feeling sympathetic to the characters.

I don’t really pay much attention to who is indie and who isn’t. Since Dianne Duvall is featured here, I know that she is one, and she’s definitely a favorite!

  2. Lara

I love that you recognized Diane Duvall! Immortal Guardians is one of my favorite series and I love her new Gifted Ones series as well – can’t wait for the next books!

  3. Anne

Shannon Meyer. I didn’t know Diannewas an indie before reading it here, I thought her series had a publisher.

  4. Anita H.

I would have to say Carly Phillips. I love her mainstream books but her Dare to Love series is awesome!
