I haven’t read any of Meg Cabot’s other paranormal books, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this one.  All I knew was I was drawn in my the teaser chapter I had read on Meg Cabot’s web site.

Pierce, who has recently moved with her mother to Florida, is trying to get her life together after nearly dying (or actually dying) after accidentally falling into the family swimming pool.  It’s not easy moving forward, when your mother is pushing you to forget, your cousin wants you to remember, your grandmother is just plain mean to you and you wonder how your first day at your new school is going to go.  Let’s not even mention the fact that she seems to be drawn to cemeteries and has a dark guardian, John,  watching over her.

This is Abandon, based on the greek myth about Persephone and Hades.  Can you guess which character is based on Persephone?

Granted, Pierce did whine a bunch and called her daddy to try and get her out of a situation, but it’s a teen book…I expect a little drama.  That said, I’m not really sure about the crazy talk from her recently released (from jail) uncle or why John really had to lack for dialogue.  Not that I didn’t enjoy it, it just left a lot of questions I’m hoping will get answered in the next book.
