Captain, the president of the Four Horsemen MC, has been in love with Eddie Rollins since he first set eyes on her. Unfortunately, she was already married to Joker, a man who didn’t deserve her. So, Captain forced himself to move on. But the torch he carries for Eddie still burns hot. Now, that both of them are finally single, he is determined to make her his old lady.

Eddie is the reigning queen bee of the club and makes the finest moonshine in all of Texas. So fine, in fact, it has been cutting into the Beauregard’s bootlegging business. When the bootleggers come after her, Captain vows to keep her safe. But he can’t protect her from discovering the ugly truth about her late husband. And about him.

I was ready for a new MC series when I picked up DEVIL MAY CARE.  Unfortunately, I soon realized this was book 4 in the series.  It was certainly good news for me when I was able to follow what was happening with the story without knowing what had happened before.  Kudos to the author for making that mistake a non-issue.

I enjoyed DEVIL MAY CARE, even if I was thrown a bit realizing our heroine, Eddie,  was pushing the fifties range and our hero, Captain,  was probably late thirties.  Not that there is anything wrong with the age range or difference, I just wasn’t expected it (since I haven’t run into that scenario with other MC romances).

I liked Eddie.  She was dealt a pretty crappy hand in life, losing her husband and having to raise her kids with hardly anything after the government had taken everything from her and the club.  But she rose above it all and was able to carve out a life and career.  But she was also there for the club.  She was their mother and the woman that tended to keep them in line.  She did everything for everyone else, except herself.

Captain has been in love with Eddie since he was a young prospect.  He may have known what Eddie’s husband doing, but he respected Eddie enough to love her from afar rather than doing anything that would make Eddie think less of him.  And any man who would love a woman from a far for twenty plus years is a guy that’s kind of hard not to love yourself.

It took a while for Eddie and Captain to weed through the past to get to a point where they could be together, but when they did you knew it was going to be a relationship that would last for the rest of their lives.

The suspense part of the storyline with the rival MC and the mafia was a bit over the top for me and tied up a little too nicely, but it did help push Eddie through to leaving the past behind and embracing what life was to be with Captain.

I love MC books and somehow missed this series. Although I prefer to read books in order, I love when authors take the time out to make each book a standalone.
