Cocktail Recipes – Author Provided

Here’s some of the cocktail recipes our visiting authors have provided.

The following recipes are from author Karen Erickson.  These are for her hero/heroine in Game for Marriage.

Jared (Quarterback for the San Jose Hawks)
Most days after practice he likes to kick back with a cold beer. But every now and again, he likes a smooth cocktail and his favorite would be an Old Fashioned.  For Jared’s perfect recipe you’ll need:

  • 4.5cl (also known as a jigger) Rye Whiskey
  • 2 dashes bitters
  • 1 sugar cube
  • Few dashes of water
  • Slice of lemon

Place the sugar cube in your glass and saturate with the bitters, add a couple dashes of water.
Muddle until dissolved
Fill the glass with ice cubes and add your whiskey and garnish with lemon slice.  (Jared doesn’t really garnish things, he generally just throws it in there)

Sheridan (Local artist & Quarterback wife)
When she wants something special, a glass of wine just won’t do.  Her drink of choice is a Moscow Mule.  She swears they taste best if the ingredients are added in this particular order.

  • Ice cubes
  • 2 oz vodka
  • chopped mint
  • 2 dashes bitters
  • squeeze of lime
  • 4 oz ginger beer

This is so boring but I love a screwdriver. Dull, but let me tell you, effective.  The recipe below is my absolute favorite version.   I’ll be toasting Cocktails & Books today for having us as the last stop on the Game For Marriage tour, and also toasting to everyone out there who purchased a copy of my book and following along throughout the tour.  Thank you! Your support means so much to me. I can’t do this without my readers and I love you all!

  • 1 oz vodka (…plus an extra splash for good measure)
  • 2 oz Orange Juice
  • 3 oz Pineapple Juice

Pour over ice & repeat as necessary.

The Blackberry Smash (provided by Amanda Usen)

Makes four tall drinks. (You’ll want two, and it’s good to share with a friend.)
1 ½ cups water
½ cup sugar
1 Tablespoon honey
8 ounces lemon juice (I use Minute Maid frozen. Fresh is better, but more work. :D)
tequila
fresh herbs (optional)
12 blackberries
Bring the sugar and water to a boil. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Add honey. (At this point you may steep some fresh herbs like oregano, thyme or basil for a minute or two if you want to be super-fancy.) Cool.
Add lemon juice.

Smash three blackberries in the bottom of each glass. Smoosh ’em up good! Add ice and  a shot or two of tequila, then add the lemonade. Stir. Blur. Enjoy!
