Review: Drive Me Wild – Christine Warren

Tess Menzies can work a spell with a few blinks of her baby blue eyes. But this dedicated witch can’t summon up a single good reason she’s been made an envoy between her kind and Manhattan’s fiercest were-creatures. The two sides haven’t spoken in four hundred years, and she’ll need every miracle in the book to broker any kind of truce. And that means outwitting Council of Others leader Rafael De Santos whose tantalizing moves and fierce hungry kisses are magic even a formidable sorceress can’t resist . . .
It doesn’t take a cat’s supernatural senses for Rafael to suspect that there’s something strange about this unexpected peace offering. And finding the truth is just as tempting as uncovering the secrets Tess is trying to conceal. Why, she’s tantalizing enough to make this wandering were-jaguar think he’s found the perfect mate—one he’s only dreamed of. But his stealth and her spells can’t guarantee they have a chance at survival, much less a future together…

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

One thing that can always be said about Christine Warren is that her characters are always good for several hours of entertainment. With lively dialogue, quirky characters and riveting story plots, her books are always worth the read. Which is why I felt unusually conflicted about this one. The customary dialogue and eccentric characters are there but other than the romance between Rafe and Tess, there wasn’t much of Warren’s usual plot twists to base a 300 page book on.  The story could obviously have been told with half that total number of pages.

There was no emotional turmoil. There was no grand mystery to solve. That being said, why did I enjoy reading it? Well, because what we do have are lust, passion and a revisit from one of our favorite couples from previous books in the series. True to form, Warren gives us a heroine that is a take no prisoners, no nonsense type that refuses to take any crap from her chosen alpha. The chemistry between Rafe and Tess practically burns up the pages. These two just can’t seem to keep their hands and just about any other body part off of each other.

Lack of any real drama notwithstanding, once I picked this up I just couldn’t seem to put it down. Technically book 7 in the Others series, Drive me Wild is the 14th book in the series published. Quirky characters make each book a great standalone if read out of chronological order or for those not familiar with the series.
