Reviewer’s Thoughts

Holy Hell, Batman!

I’m not generally one to include gifs in my reviews, but this book warranted it.  This book was everything that I look for in an MC romance, with a little bit more.  With the continuation of Shadow and Dani’s story, I just knew this was going to be the part where Shadow had to break to become the man he wanted to be for Dani.

Of course, right at the very beginning I wasn’t very sure there was going to be a Dani and Shadow.  Almost everyone within Devil’s Dust believed Dani was in on her mother’s evil plan to do away with her ex and his MC.  So it was no surprise that she didn’t receive the warmest welcome when she went back to the only place she had left.  The only person who believed in Dani, and had from the very beginning, was Bobby.  His faith in Dani, his need to stand by her when no one else did.  His need to help her move on and to never give up on his best friend, no matter how hard he was pushed away, made it easy to see why Dani would willingly stay with him when she knew no one else wanted her.

Dani never had an easy life, but realizing your mother used you and your recently found father kicked her to the curb has a way of breaking her.  But losing Shadow is the tipping point for her.  When Shadow turned his back on her, she broken.  No matter how badly she’s hurt by his lack of trust and faith in her, she can’t help but long for her equally broken man.  Everything she did was to try and evoke some kind of reaction out of Shadow, whether it was good or bad, because whether he was kissing her or yelling at her, at least he was there with her.

But Shadow wasn’t that much better off without Dani.  Despite falling back on old habits of alcohol and drugs, he found the only thing that could calm his beast was Dani.  He hated himself for being, what her considered, weak with his need for her, having felt like she broke his trust, but he knew that if his brothers were to decide Dani needed to be taken care of, he would get the call.  It was a tough realization to carry around with him, considering how much he loved her and wanted to think she couldn’t have done what everyone said she did.

It takes Shadow and Dani a significant portion of the book to work through their issues and as they work through their issues, other issues within the MC arise.  It’s how Shadow and Dani handle those issues, as a team, that proves how strong their relationship is.  When both of them could have stomped off because of more secrets or conveniently leaving out information, they worked through their issues.  They got mad, they may have yelled, but in the end they knew they would always fight to protect each other and their relationship.

Book three in the series, THE FEAR THAT DIVIDES US,  comes out early 2015 and will focus on Bobby and his relationship with Doc.  I love Bobby and can’t wait to see just what his story brings.
