Reviewer’s Thoughts

I loved the first book, and was enamored with Ms. Keats’s ability to draw me into a story and present a historical world that felt real and allowed me to relate to the characters. She kept up that beautifully illustrated world with When a Laird Takes a Lady and I absolutely adore the title, it suits the story.

The best part of the story is the way that I just wasn’t sure how they would come together and live happily ever after with the unique and difficult circumstances around them. I adored the way that Ms. Keats left the language plain without some of the heavily accented language that is a struggle for me with other Scottish romances. I really liked that even though it’s a fantasy story with even a bit of magic, I still felt like she kept true to the history and that I even learned a little bit.

I enjoyed Isabail and Aiden together, and was amazed that they came to love and trust one another when they’re surrounded by lies and betrayal. I really love the foreshadowing that continues from the first book and I look forward to reading the next book. I highly recommend any book by Rowan Keats because she’s proven herself to be a superb storyteller.
