Edmonton cop Jack has one rule for dating—don’t get emotionally involved. A string of short-term flings leaves him dissatisfied, though, and he starts to envy his partner, Jeremy, who’s been dating curvy redhead, Caitlin for a year.

Then, Jack glimpses something forbidden—and realizes a glimpse is not enough. For Caitlin and Jeremy, letting Jack watch began as an accident, and became a game. But they soon realize the game has high stakes—and threatens to tear them apart forever.

Jeremy doesn’t want to lose his best friend, but what will he have to sacrifice to keep Jack around? Caitlin knows what she wants, but getting it might destroy everything. And Jack may have come second, but he won’t settle for second best. He started out just watching.

Now he wants it all.

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

Jack and Jeremy have been best friends since they were partnered together on the Edmonton police force.  Jeremy is in a committed relationship with Caitlin, while Jack has playing the field and running from the broken heart he suffered the prior year.  Jack doesn’t realize that he might just have a thing for Caitlin until he accidentally sees and then watches Jeremy and Caitlin together one night.

That one accident leads to some complications in the relationship between Jack, Jeremy and Caitlin.  While at first Jeremy and Caitlin found it exciting to know Jack liked watching them, they soon move to inviting Jack to spend a night with them.  What none of them were prepared for was how that one night would almost destroy their relationship.

For a short read, the story was very emotional.  You could feel the Jack’s agony on almost every page.  This was a man that was having a hard time dealing with what he wanted and then, when they had their one night, trying to figure out how he was ever going to be able to live without what he just experienced.  But Jeremy’s emotions were just as strong.  He truly thought he was giving his best friend a special gift and when it looked like everything was falling apart, he was devastated.  The emotions of these two made you love them and want them to find the happy middle ground they could both live with, with Caitlin.

This was a quick one, but one that pulled you in immediately and wouldn’t let you go.  Definitely one to pick up.
