From the beginning of Figg’s employment, there is something not quite right about the bar. There are few customers, a parade of neighborhood psychics and pentacle adorned visitors, all coming to hold court with her enigmatic boss. Figg is not sure what is going on, but she is determined to find out!

When the local voodoo queen shows up, and the next morning her grandson ends up dead outside the bar things get interesting.

Figg pesters Lian into telling her the truth about his former life, and is thrust into a world where the things that go bump in the night are real. There’s a murder to solve, zombies to lay to rest and a villain that neither of them saw coming.

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

Hilarious, witty, and guaranteed to keep you turning the pages, this short story was great!  As the story begins, you’re introduced to Figg and her boss Lian.  Figg is definitely what you’d call an individualistic character.  She has her own fashion style, a witty attitude and a sharp tongue.  She’s young and full of life.  Lian, on the other hand, is quiet, reserved and mild tempered.   As Figg starts to learn the ropes of her new job, she begins to notice that a lot of their unique customers are visiting Lian for advice.  Her curiosities are answered, however, when the local voodoo queen’s son is found dead outside of Lian’s bar, forcing Figg into Lian’s past and the wild world of the supernatural.

I loved this book.  I loved the characters and their ability to make me laugh out loud several times.  I loved the way that the writing flowed smoothly.  I loved that it was chocked full of action and adventure, making it seemingly impossible for me to put it down.  I loved that there are zombies…and plenty of them.

My only gripe with this book is that it was far too short.  With such a uniquely fun and exciting story, I would have loved for it to be at least twice as long as it is, if not longer.  The author created an amazing story in Figg and Lian, and I am left itching to read much, much more.
