Captain Charlotte “Charlie” O’Brien, a doctor in the United States Navy, returns to her home in North Salem, Massachusetts to visit her family and make an important decision about her future. Mother Nature has other plans when a hurricane strikes, flooding the town and throwing Jake Sherbrooke in Charlie’s path. Initially she believes Jake is nothing more than a rich playboy, but quickly, she learns that he is so much more.
The media calls him Prince Charming
Jake Sherbrooke has never been one to follow the path laid out by his parents. That is why he started the Falmouth Foundation, a non-profit disaster relief organization rather than enter politics. When he learns of the destruction in North Salem, he immediately travels there to offer aid and meets Charlie O’Brien. Charlie is unlike any woman he has ever meet and he can not help but be drawn to her.
Soon neither can ignore the incredible chemistry between them. But will his reputation as a billionaire playboy damage their budding romance?

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

110-mile an hour gale force winds set the stage for The Billionaire Playboy. Very unpredictable characters offset this standard story structure. Capt. Charlotte O’Brien is a working class U.S. Naval doctor; Jake Sherbrooke is the nation’s rich, playboy First Son. That’s where the predictability ends. With an ex-girlfriend trying to reconcile, a persistent reporter looking for a story and one misunderstanding after another, can these two mismatched lovebirds can make things work?

When I was first asked to read this book my first thought was “Oh boy, here we go again, yet another story of the rich, debonair playboy coming in and sweeping the poor, blue collar girl off her feet because she just can’t live without him.” Boy was I wrong. Jake is unlike your typical rich playboy character. Sure, he’s rich, handsome and could charm the pants off my great aunt Fannie, if I had one. But he was also hardworking and not afraid to get his hands dirty, literally and physically. And Charlotte was as far from a shrinking violet as you could get. If ever there was a non stereotypical couple made for each other it was these two. Which is what made their misunderstandings so frustrating. They of course work things out in the end to provide us with a lovely happily ever after.
In the end The Billionaire Playboy really is a very sweet, romantic story of two very different people form two completely different worlds finding love after a horrible tragedy. I found myself greatly enjoying this one. With endearing secondary characters and a subtle romance, this is not to be missed.
